Full Name: Z’len (born Zaelen)
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Rank: Dragonrider
Appearance:

A tall, lean man with narrow shoulders and hips, Z’len is not exactly the epitome of strength. When seen from the side, it becomes obvious that he also has a narrow chest. Sure, he could use a bit more muscle on him, but he is not one to complain about his size; after all, he is fairly strong.

With an aquiline nose and strong jaw, Z’len can be described as handsome, though he certainly is not one with the ability to stand out in the crowd. One thing that Z’len particularly likes about himself is his hair; curly and (though he tries to avoid it) wild, he often finds himself pulling it back in a short, messy ponytail. Z’len, though he can be very serious, is often seen smiling. There is no reason not to, and so he has no problem doing it—after all, it is far better than walking around like a grump.

When he is not in his wher-hide riding gear, Z’len can normally be found wearing tunics of various colors. He seems to be fond of the color blue, particularly any which can match his Leviath’s hide.

Personality: Being the eldest child in a family of eight taught Z’len at the very young age the importance of hard work. Helpful to the extreme, Z’len often finds himself volunteering to help—whether it be doing sweeps, Searches, helping Candidates or Weyrlings and even doing chores. It seems as though he likes to keep himself busy.

Z’len is strong emotionally; he can hold his own, and with Leviath he’s even stronger. The death of his weyrmate during Threadfall hit him hard, but he’s coping with it. Dragonriders can not—should not—succumb to depression, and Z’len refuses to let himself.

As if it would help, he took to a bit of shameless flirting. This isn’t to say that it’s the only thing he does, rather if he sees a pretty, or handsome, face and it appears to him that the person may be interested in him, he would take to flirting with them.

History: In Nabol Hold, Zaelen was the typical holder child; he did his chores, duties, and attended daily Harper lessons. As the eldest child, he was expected to continue mining as his father had, and, if he was deemed worthy enough, Impress a watch-wher. Zaelen could not claim that he liked it at the mine; rather it was a place he had to stay while he searched out something better for himself. Mining was not, in his valid opinion, a great job.

On the other hand, the boy took to the drums like a master. Particularly efficient with drum codes, he could often be found up in the tower receiving and sending messages off to different holds. While he was not Harper material, Zaelen liked to entertain himself. If he was, he would become a journeyman, specializing in the drums, travel from hold to hold teaching others the ways of Pern, and become famous.

It was a silly thing to dream about, but Zaelen did not mind. After all, he had a better chance of becoming a Harper than (and at this, he always grins, because this is his true wish) being Searched and becoming a rider.

Dreams do come true, though; once Zaelen was fourteen turns old, a Searchrider came to Nabol Hold, claiming that the boy had potential to Impress. His father did not want to let him go, of course—if he had the possibility to Impress a dragon, then he could certainly Impress a watch-wher and be of value to the mine. Zaelen knew his rights as a Searched Candidate, and could not be kept at the Hold.

He was whisked away, right on time for the Hatching.

Zaelen stood out on the sands, hot and sweaty, as he waited for his dragon. He was Searched, so that meant that he had to have one, right? As Greens hatched, as well as blue, and began Impressing to Theirs, he became fidgety. What if he would not Impress? What if coming had been a mistake?

He concentrated on watching the hatchlings, particularly that of a sturdy brown, a pretty green, and a magnificent blue. In his desperation, though he knew that dragons did not understand drum codes, he slapped out a message by hitting his hands against his thighs. The boy who stood next to him shot him an awkward look, but Zaelen did not care. I am here. Where are you? it had said.

It seemed to do the trick, because the blue that he had been watching turned around, making a dash towards him. It seemed that his hand, moving in a particular pattern, had caught his eye. Z’lenMine! Why are you being so silly? he asked. Once the blue’s voice rang through his head, Zaelen’s face broke into a grin. Your Leviath is here now. We can play after I am fed, right, Mine?

From that moment on, Zaelen was Z’len, rider of the marvelous Blue Leviath.

When Leviath was two turns and a green rose, the dragon suddenly seemed to hit maturity. He shot into the sky, no more than a blue blur; flying as fast as his wings would allow him. He would fly this green, he was sure of it! The blue was correct, as he had been the one to win the flight.

Much to Z’len’s joy, the rider, Par’us, had been someone who he was quite fond of. It was a decision made by the two of them to become weyrmates.

Their relationship was a steady one, one that Z’len was quite thankful for. He never suspected that a sudden, unfair, and cruel end was about to occur.

It was during an unpredictable Threadfall that Z’len saw it happen. Par’us and his Green were clipped by Thread. Z’len expected the dragon to blink between in an instant, but she did not. Instead, she let loose an anguished cry before disappearing. The last thing that Z’len remembered seeing was Par’us’ limp body against his dragon’s neck.

He let loose a cry of his own; one out of suffering at his loss, though it soon turned into one of pain. He had not paid any attention, and a small clump of Thread had scored him. Leviath, with his quick reflexes, went between before any damage was taken. Z’len would bare a scar on his arm, but nothing more.

Dragon Name: Leviath (356790)
Age: 5
Appearance: A clear, solid blue—almost the color of shattered glass—this dragon can be described as beautiful, based solely on his color. Though he is on the larger end of the blue scale, Leviath is slender; he is built in such a way that he can cut through the air easily, making flying very enjoyable and easy for him. His wings seem to fit his body just perfectly, and he has a slightly longer than normal tail.

Personality: Leviath is quite the happy-go-lucky dragon. Though the times would call for a beast who is serious, this dragon actually tends to have a want to play games. Though it would seem awkward, he actually enjoys playing with weyrbrats and, if the situation would allow for it, holder children. He’s particularly fond of the game of “pretend”, and will allow children to climb up onto his neck in order to “flame and fight Thread”, with the careful supervision of His, of course.

Though he is a kind dragon, Leviath will stop at nothing to protect anything he considers His or in need of protecting.
