Brokeback Mountain; Warning: Story Line Revealed

As some of you already know from reading my past posts, I support gay rights and the gay community. With that being said, I didn’t care for the movie (Brokeback Mountain).

First off, the movie got off to a slow start.

Next, the two guys didn’t seem too much like real cowboys, a little more like a California boys on a dude ranch for a weekend.

The part I really didn’t like is when Ennis found out that Jack had died and Jacks wife is telling him about it. Then comes that “flashback” and the audience understands that Jack had been beaten to death. Since Ennis had seen this done to a man when he was a kid, what’s the chance it would actually happen again, but even more close to home.

All in all the movie wasn’t bad, but it sure didn’t live up to all the “hype” in my opinion. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it just seemed like something was missing.

Any comments on the movie?

Umm..

It would have been nice if you had posted something in the title about this being a spoiler.

Well, I'll tip my hat to you, fj - unlike (I suspect) almost all the folks who are kicking up such a fuss about this movie, at least you bothered to SEE IT!

Why would anyone want to see a movie when the subject matter is something they don't approve of? Just as I do not think that one would have to see "Deep Throat", to determine that it is pornography.

BTW--I read the reviews, and they main characters were not cowboys, they were sheepherders.

To be informed.

I deduce that you do not read papers, watch TV news, listen to radio, etc.

Jeesh!

My previous post was in reply to Pentax's post, "at least you bothered to SEE IT!"

I have also not seen any of the "Faces of Death" videos.

re not bothering to see it....

sorry, the subject doesn't interest me. I can't imagine anything more boring than listening to a couple of men (or women) agonize over their sexual attraction to each other. my sympathy meter just doesn't work for them.

My point is the WAY some people are jumping blindly on a bandwagon, that they know nothing about. Don't like something? Fine, just carry on. Let the Market decide. It's no different than picking what TV you want to watch, or whether you spend your vacation at Mardi Gras.

But I have no truck for those that would like to bring back "book-burning" - if they are allowing others to make up their minds for them. Let them watch Fox and leave others alone.

I hope nobody minds but the topic is getting more serious than Campfire's usual fare (due as much to me as anything else), so I moved it to Soapbox.

Guys, before this gets out of hand. I wanted to say that I knew the basic content of the movie and that is NOT why I posted this topic.

I posted this because I just can't see why this movie is up for so many awards. I mean it wasn't a terrible movie, but it just lacked something and I personally didn't like the way one of the characters "ended up".

I am not complaining about the content of the movie at all.

And, I hope this doesn't offend anyone. That is not my intention.

Don't worry about it, Frank. People like to gripe. Amd some are hung up about the topic.

I'll probably wait for it to get to the video store, like all other movies. McMurtry i a great writer and screenwriter and seems to have taken a lot of pride in this movie. So I will see it.

Maybe it was your expectations about what a western is.

Thanks for the assesment. I had no intention of seeing the movie, unless they edit out one of the guys and replace him with Jessica Simpson in shorts (like in Dukes of Hazard), then I might be tempted to go see it.

I suspected that it wasn't that great of a movie, but knowing Hollywood, I wasn't supprized when it started winning all kinds of awards. Just pandering to the Gays.

Not quite....

"Brokeback" is near the bottom in 2005 sales.

See: Movie Sales

It made about $52 million. Since it had a budget of about $14 million, it made money.
