Good morning all, it’s Boxing Day today.
Isn’t that the day we open the collection boxes for the poor?

I thought to start this one for a chance as I’m way ahead of you all.
It’s a sunny day here and no frost at all, not even at night.
A good day for a long walk to burn up all that excessive Christmas dinner food and drink.

My understanding is that the Boxing Day tradition started when the aristocrats gave their servants a day off to celebrate Christmas, and ate boxed lunches....

Anyway, in Canada at least it has just become a spending orgy - biggest shopping day of the year... For many companies, make or break for profitability for the entire year!

Nice day here too, no frost, (4C:39F) green grass, but still kinda dark...

The only Boxing here is when my daughter arrives and finds out I gave the leftover pecan pie to my sister...after promising her I would save her some this year.. :fryingpan: :fryingpan: :fryingpan: .

The Country Market opens at 8:30 and I am going to be at the door to buy some pecans and a frozen Oronoque Orchards piecrust (very, very good!). Also, a huge pile of pastrami and some crusty rolls and sliced cheese...we'll have a yummy lunch!

Edit: the phone just rang; Ros says she doesn't need the pecan pie; they are bringing a date-sour cream pie instead. Phew!

But I still have to go down to the market...

Was that Merry or Happy? Don't want to start Boxing Day Wars! :floorrollin:

Happy Boxing Day...........I assume another day of eating and drinking? :xmascheers:

Today I would like to do nothing, maybe just stay in bed, I'm exhausted. We had a great time and I must say the food was delicious, company great, but I'm find it to be a lot of work.......
We were invited out to dinner tonight, I'll get dressed for that. :tiphat:

Cloudy day and going into the 30's tonight. :)

Brew, there is a tradition that goes back even further, google "feast of Stephen".

One Account of Why December 26 is important in Christianity.

But then, of course, fans of Ellis Peters and Brother Cadfael, would tend to look at December 26 as the day when King Stephen, king from 1135-1154, would gather his mignons for consultation and feasting - after which Sherrif Hugh would come back and give Brother Cadfael his 'state of the war' report.

Morning all! Very, very foggy.

Lovely lazy hours ahead of me :) Chrissy, Christmas is a lot of work, but it's so heartwarming to see all the effects of our hard work. I'm thinking of my girls this morning, who I'm sure are as tired as I am, but they had to get up with their chickens while I could sleep until 9.

Sharon told me yesterday that Allison can get herself through 5 1/2 hours at night (headed to sleeping through) and I told her there was light at the end of the tunnel. She agreed, but said the light was very, very dim since Joey was a little gobbler!

Age has some merits ;)

Have a day :holiday: :holiday:

Pat, Joey has some catching-up to do! Sounds like he has the hang of it.

Yes, Chrissy, it is a lot of work, but still worth it. I am thinking of ways to get out of it...like waiting for my dear SIL to do the food-shopping downtown! ;) he is Irish-Italian and a master food shopper! Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. Meanwhile, Ros and I can whip up another batch of eggnog....

It is about 55 and we just had a good thunderstorm. Amazing weather.

Lynne, glad to see you back here; hope you'll stay. :)

Chrissy, if you plan it right, EVERY Day can be full of eating and drinking!

When I was growing up, Boxing Day was like an "Alternate Christmas". If you spent Christmas day with your Mother's family, then Boxing day was with your Father's, alternating each year. :)

Now it's just one huge Shopping Blowout, starting at about 6AM (for the REAL Bargains) and slowing down about 3PM , when everyone goes home and eats leftover turkey till they just can't stand any more...

The shopping? Think of the day after American Thanksgiving * 3 - - It's INSANE!!! :faint: :faint: :faint:

No prune here Chrissy! I was the only little mermaid there, and wasn't jumping around in the water by my lonesome! :nono: May have been confustion on the time, as it was originally at 9:30, then changed to 10:00 and just changed back to 9:30. Didn't feel like going back up to check. :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

You know, ANY excuse not to do it!

I think I have this box fixed. Maybe had to wait for Boxing Day for it to work

I was getting worried about you. I can see how it would be depressing having your hard drive fail. :o
The character inherent in the American people has done all that has been accomplished; and it would have done somewhat more, if the government had not sometimes got in its way.
