Oh goody, I get to start the day's messages:

Good morning fellow campers, rise and shine and meet the day.

It's presently not snowing, but I'm having a conundrum about snowsqualls. The weather forecast predicted snowsqualls for today, but how can you have a snowsquall when there isn't much snow on the ground and there is only 1 centimeter of accumulation predicted between now and Monday? There are approximately 2 1/2 inches to one centimeter. So 1 centimeter would be a little more than 1/3 of 1" of snow.

Haydn has said he will climb the ladder if I get icicle-type Christmas lights for the roof over the garage, so before he changes his mind, I'll have to go and get some. :floorrollin:

Have a great day everyone.

Sylvia, I hadn't realized how much I missed your cute and timely graphics til you started posting them again. They make this little corner of my world a brighter place!

My big news of the morning: I finally bought a scanner yesterday, and with my daughter's help, set it up. Now I have to learn to use it; I'll be able to post some of the pictures I have taken on past trips before the digital camera came into my life!

I got a long letter from Kees and am waiting for his permission to post some of it here. He has been having major computer issues (sound familiar?? :faint: ) and says something about maybe St. Nicholas will be good to him this year...

It is snowing, and my chickies are still afraid of it and won't come out of their little house. I have to put the food and water right up close to it. Well, if my brother keeps his promise, by next winter they will be indoors in the shed, with a big bright light for warmth during the day, and plenty of space to scratch and "dust-bathe" in the wood shavings.

I have a whole set of lovely icicle lights (blue and white mixed) but nobody to climb the ladder for me. No, I will not do it myself! Have to be content with putting lights on what I can reach from terra firma.

It is so cold and dark today; I think I will bake something....

Heather,

Thank you. It's nice to know that someone missed my graphics.

You're gonna love your scanner. Scanners are a great supplement to your digital world. I use Adobe Photoshop to enhance the photographs that I take, but it's a very expensive programme that I bought years ago the expense of which was shared with another user. Not everyone can afford such deluxe software to enhance their photographs. For me it's really easy to put frames around the pictures I take.

So here's a freeware software package that you can use:

http://www.hochstrasser.org/wiki/pmwiki.ph...Delphi.FrameFun

The difference between freeware and shareware is you never have to pay for freeware...it's totally free. I also have it on my system because it does things Adobe Photoshop isn't capable of doing without my adding masks that reproduces what this programme does so easily and instantly.

It's called FrameFun and it puts frames around photographs. You have to experiment ‘til you’re satisfied that what you have selected is how you want your pictures to look when you print it. It doesn’t cost anything to upload or use…so you have nothing to lose by seeing what your pictures look like using this software.

Try it, you might like it! You'll have to play around with the settings. It has the ability to put both inside and outside frames around your photographs. You can also make your pictures look old (sepia-like...old world 18th century) by choosing one of the settings. You can also choose the colour of the frames. Some are enhanced with a round frame which can be selected.

-----

What specifically were you planning to bake? It is now snowing ... making my world today very serene and clean.

Heather, I wouldn't have thought chickies would be afraid of falling snow. How cute.

Everyone, have a nice Sunday.

Nice lazy morning :) It snowed again. We have had 29" already - and it's only Dec. 5.
If I were a chicken I wouldn't go out either! Napoleon and Josephine are no dumb clucks :snow:

I have lots of stuff to get going on around here...looking a little like Christmas is part of the plan. I have absolutely nothing out...

Have a day!

Something spicy, like gingerbread, or maybe some cinnamon Christmas cookies, like these?

Cinnamon Thins

2 cups butter
2 cups sugar (scant)
4 cups flour
2 tbsp. cinnamon
2 egg yolks

Cream butter and sugar. Add flour, cinnamon and egg yolks. When blended, press lightly into two jelly roll pans about 1/4" thick.

Topping:

2 egg whites, beaten
1 cup sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 cup chopped pecans

Beat egg whites slightly and brush over the surface of dough. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over egg whites. Sprinkle chopped pecans over, pressing in lightly. Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes. Cut into squares while hot, then let cool in the pan.

Sylvia, thanks for the link; I'll take a look at it after lunch.

So far, the hardest part of this whole thing has been finding a decent place to plug everything in. Those darned little transformers take up all the space!

Somewhere in a catalog I saw a set of little "pigtails", 8" cords with three-prong plugs to attach to your surge protector, then plug in those pesky space-hogging boxes. I am going to order some. I have only seven things plugged in, but cannot get them all onto two, six-outlet SP's!

No comment on your electrical set up! :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Sylvia

Oh, okay ... I just can't resist. You're not supposed to plug more than one device into a surge protector or you defeat the purpose of using one. I have an surge protector that works on batteries in the event of electrical failure. It has only 6 holes to plug things into and I very carefully selected the devices that I plug into it. (computer/monitor/printer). It also has plugs for telephone lines--telephones too are subject to surges.

The rest of my stuff, I do plug into ordinary surge protectors. I've lost track of the number of things that plug into it. I have two and then I use up all the receptacles that are in my office space. I do not use the type of device you're thinking of buying and I would not recommend buying them.

I have a computer, two printers, a fax machine, a scanner, lamp (s), monitor, speakers ... the list goes on ... several of these gadgets have transformers. Believe I can actually see the dial on the hydro (electrical) meter going 'round when they're all in use--the accompanying dollars just fly by! :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

----

oooh, just the thought of the aroma of what it is you''re baking is making me what to bake some too! Haydn would make very short of them!

You seem to have an unlimited supply of pecans? Pecans can get rather expensive where I live and I tend to limit the number of packages of pecans that I buy.

Sylvia, the pecans: Sunnyland Pecans

I get a home box and it lasts us two years, in the freezer. They are beautifully meaty and fresh.

Good morning (?), sleepyhead Wolfie....what's it like to sleep half the day away?? (I know I miss a lot by going to bed so early)

Good afternoon!

Went out to breakfast than did some shopping at the store where I now work. GREAT deals going on this weekend plus lots of DVD's being given away. Twelve an hour. This morning there wasn't a ton of people there, so odds were pretty good. When we checked out, we won one!

Nothin else planned for the day, just doing laundry and hanging out.

Sylvia, I missed your graphics as well. I can never find cute ones like you post. :faint:

Good afternoon folks, kept busy this morning with a Sawzall and some furniture in our basement where the Pool Table is.....nothing more dangerous than a man with a few Beers and a Sawzall and a Wife saying "get rid of this stuff, it's not going with us"....I had a blast
