I am in Bay Area right now and unfortunately the phones still work. It is really annoying to try do some work (posting) and all those solicitors calling under "Private Name, Private Number". |

lol kaj...the orange county register keeps calling....lol WE ALREADY CARRY! Yep, corky we were down from Laguna ~to~ Long Beach at least...affected the hospitals and refineries, couldn't get calls out, thank goodness for cells! We had been having a lot of lightening activity so not sure if that ws the reason. |

Last month when our storm hit we had no telephone or power for five days. I really appreciated my cell phone. If for nothing else an emergency call if need be.

Torrance activated its Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Team when the Cells failed. I was surprised how many 911 calls we had to handle, I didn't think the general public even knew we existed in that capacity. Torrance has over 1200 Amateur Radio Operators (HAMS), and some of our neighbors know we can communicate with the police when all else fails, others just think we have big ugly antenna's on our roofs. :toot: |

History 101: When a popular myth is believed to be factual, teach the myth. Its not possible to underestimate the intelligence of the voting populous. Hummm, after seeing the results of the 06 election, I may have to modify my perception of the voting populous and refer to them as "Late Bloomers".

5th, I know a guy that is big time into this radio stuff like you...even my dad has done some stuff. Was thinking about getting my own little set up. What is an initial cost set up and learning about? Seems to me to be a very smart hobby that is useful in todays world, since it is evident that things like phones will indeed go down. Do you have it set up where you can use a generator for power if we even lost that? |
