Went to "Ralph's" yesterday with the flier having some coupons.
This is one of those "membership optional" grocery places.
So I had "members prices", than I had coupons, that with certain amount of purchases gave big bag of candies for 59 cents and on the top of that I had a coupon, that with over $75 of shopping would give me $10 off.
So.... they had potatoes and cereals on good "members sale". The items that my boys inhale in huge quantities. Smirnoff Ice was on sale too.
I went to the cashier and it rang$136, than I gave him my card and coupons, to see "the magic" when computer was adjusting it down to $48. If I wasn't a member and with no coupons, I would have to pay $136.
And we complain about 30 cents gasoline price gouging???
I am not going grocery shopping to exercise my brain. Chris do you know any software, that I could have on my laptop going there next time? USB price scanner would be nice too.

Coupons gave me only about $12, while about $86 come form"membership".
What kind of membership it is, when doesn't require any qualifications, or fees? Just fill up the application and they pull a card from the bottom of the drawer.
Simply calculator will not work.
What made me thinking is the "$5 off $50 purchase, or $10 off $75 purchase". Didn't read the small print, but I assumed it works on the final purchase, when on the bill it looks like they calculated the "regular" prices.
So next time I might try that:
If they have $5 item, that the members can buy for $1.50, so by buying 15 of them I'll fill the $75 limit and get the $10 off.
That makes total $65. Now I sweep my membership, that gives me $3.50 off each 15 items, making total $12.50.
So one person in the line will pay $75 and another $12.50 for the same basket.
IS THAT LEGAL ???
I bet not, if you ask the person paying $75.

The only things I am buying in this place is meat, some booze and potatoes.
I wonder how well that info sells?

I have cards everywhere and I don't care if they sell my info as long as I save money. I'm with kajtek, but my favorite store does calculate a savings (like 10% off total) on the adjusted total - after membership savings and coupons. You do need to remember what regular prices are to see if the deal is real.

So why would a businessman/women want one customer pay $75 and another $12.50 for the same basket.
Isn't that about (PSP) People Screwing People?

It's called free market capitalism.

Do you want to return to the collectivism you grew up under?

The store isn't denying the card to anyone. Get a card; save money.
A lot of people don't like to have cards because of the selling info business...why do I care if someone knows I buy Scott toilet paper and Bounty paper towels?
I've shopped for the kids when I've been doing baby duty and I always say I forgot my daughter's card, woe is me. They always swipe a card and I get the discounts.

I always sign up for the card and use coupons.

It would be easier if the stores simply posted the coupon price, butr as I understand it--they make more profit margins on some items and will actually sell other items at a lose in order to intice me to shop there.

I shop bottom line and always have. :cowboy:

Let me analyze that.
In what you call "collectivism" it was only one political party and one ideology.
Those, that got on high stools took from the table much more, than those at the bottom.
So if item, that cost $1 to manufacture was sold for $100 it was people doing for people, or mentioned PSP.
Here if $12.50 item is sold for $75, you call it "free market capitalism".
I still call it People Screwing People.
I have another sample. Friend in No. California a year ago bought power pole, with conduit and electrical box on it for $500. The price included delivery and dropping into prepared by customer hole.
I need pole now in So. California, where labor is much cheaper. Local electrical company will sell me the pole for $3200, or install it for total of $4500.
I called the place North, and they sell the better poles now for $670.
So those people here want to sell me $600 worth merchandise for over 3 grands.
Do I really have "stupid" written on my forehead?
This way PSP instead of making progress in our life and getting it better, we are wasting our time and resources to try to screw each other.
How many people have you screwed today?

Getting the best price is called shopping. Getting screwed is when you make your deal and the other party trys to reneg or charge you more.

Doing the majority of my work being an employee but sometimes working independently most customers i've come across would cheat you.

Lot's more money but too many headaches. Now the checks are direct deposit and screw them all.

Gotta go and cut coupons.
