He probably wasn't, but that's one Heck of a good example of the same thing!

I am reminded of all those who spouted off about the "Domino Theory" back in the 60's, to defend the actions in Vietnam ("if we don't stop it here, all of Asia will fall", etc)

Yeah, right. Here it is, now more than 30 years since Saigon fell - and what has Vietnam DONE? It can barely feed itself, and is only slowly growing out of poverty, by manufacturing cheap imports to the West, and marketing it's Tourism!

Domino, my fat tush!

We are in agreement on that folly.

Now we have nearly the exact same scenario playing out in the middle east.

Did somebody take a playcard out of somebody elses playbook?

I know why the Dems hate President Bush. Mostly because he has beat them at every turn. And he is about to box their ears again with his nominee to the Supreme Court.
Whether or not she is the originalist he claims she is, he will get his person confirmed. They will howl about her church affiliations and the lack of a paper trail and her personal stance on R v.W but in the end he will have his way. For a stupid guy he sure takes them down the road often enough.

Now where we part company is on immigration, and social spending. But he gets his way and that is not the sign of a stupid man. Moreover he tells the truth, and says what he is going to do.

Real demos no longer have a party. They have a screaming liberal (read socialist) fringe who have bought the rights to the "Democrat" name and left those who identify with FDR, JFK and HST just wondering what happened to the "loyal opposition"; those with ideas, and direction instead of a bunch of name callers, without vision that want to bring back the "good old days" when the only outlets for the news were in their hip pockets.

My prediction: The Republican party will add to their majority in congress in '06. Not because they deserve it but because the opposition is bankrupt of ideas and plans. They offer nothing constructive and the label "liberal" and "environmentalist" translate into socialist and obstructionist.

And if you don't believe me I tell you how I really feel :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Mike "I shamefully supported ...I learned a valuable lesson and one that I will never forget."

There should be no shame in standing for what you believe, that is how you learn to walk, so to speak.

Agree, local is where to focus efforts, but you need to reserve some in rearguard action against encrouchment by federal government.

You guys speak strange language.
Personally, I don't blame GW for what he is.
But I blame voters for letting him became/stay President.

Don't be so hard on the voters, they were duped and lied to by president photo-op and the rest of the CON's.

Its not possible to underestimate the intelligence of the average American voter.

And Kerry was the paragon of truth? Anyone remember one thing he stood for?

Still, you're right, I'd rather have Bush than Clinton, as he, imo, has restored some dignity to the office after everyone from Ike to Clinton sullied it. Still, I can think of some conservatives I'd rather see in there right now--heck, we'd be better off with Cheney.

I can see what you are saying here, and would have to agree with you, although on the immigration thing, I have been trying to understand what he is doing.

With that I agree, it's just figuring out what that is, which is largely getting past one's projecting one's likes and dislikes onto him, and starting to listen to what he actually says, agreeable or disagreeable.

Oh Boy.... if ever a man had the look of the cat that swallowed the canary - he's it!

And now it looks like it was his Chief-of-Staff that leaked Valerie Plame's name; not only a felony, but it puts at risk any Muslim that gave her info, when she was in the Middle East.

I can just see it in the last year or so....

Knock, knock, knock! "Ah Achmed, my good neighbour.... please come out into the alley with my group of friends. We would like to talk to you about your friendship with Mrs. Plame...."

Some say GW is not intelligent. How do they know that? Because they disagree with him? He did graduate from Harvard Law School didn't he. I didn't see the dems making a big issue of IQ during the election. Could it be that Carrie wasn't a candidate for MENSA either? Just because someone speaks with a Texas drawl, or doesn't have an elequent vocabular doesn't make them mentally deficient. Even very bright people make mistakes and errors in judgment.

The only way conservatives will turn away from the Rep. party is for the Dems to nominate more centrist candidates. They have not done that. I usually vote Rep., but would probably have voted Dem. in the last presidential election if they had nominated someone like Gephardt. It seems the same old story every election (with the exception of Clinton). The liberal wing of the party gets all fired up, and nominates a candidate that cons see as the worst of too bad choices.

And, was I an American, I would have voted Republican, if it was a guy like McCain - HOLY SMOKES! A REAL War-Hero, that can also get folks from both sides of the floor to meet in the Aisle and shake hands.... TSK, TSK! We sure don't want THAT, do we?

Best President that you never had, in my opinion....
