Pat, and everyone, look at thsis update, January 06, 2006 at 05:43 PM PST Taylor had a home health visit today. She's been getting monthly shots to prevent RSV (a very dangerous virus that presents like a common cold in adults, but is lethal for little ones). He weighed Taylor with his little portable baby scale and Taylor weighed 8 lbs 6 ounces!! Woo hoo! She got her shot, which she wasn't very happy about, and went right back to sleep. She's also been helping me learn music, I sit with her on my lap while I'm at the piano learning new songs. What a big girl!! Wow!!! what a big girl now. yippy,, uncle Dale |

I cannot believe that these little miracles were six months old last Thursday. Six months. Wow. Pediatrician does not need to see them for three months - healthy as little horses, thank the Lord. One more RSV shot for this year at the end of March and then none until October. As Dale's post mentioned, RSV can be deadly for preemies. Our one year old granddaughter did get it this winter, but she wasn't really bothered by it. Why it can do preemies in I don't know, but they need shots in the winter for two years. Anyway, Allie weighs 16 pounds and Joey 15. Joey is more active, Allie is more of an observer. Both good eaters and sleepers. Allie likes sleep more than Joey. Both of them will need some therapy for gross motor and I believe it will start soon. Nothing major. Their fine motor skills are good, everything cognitive they are ahead of any curve, and they have been moved to the "normal" baby height and weight chart. Normal being term. The best way (I think) to explain preemie development is to consider their age as if they were born at term - which would make them @ 3 1/2 months old. This is the way their pediatrician (head of Peds at Johns Hopkins which is not too shabby) told our kids to look at it. I'm glad they agree with him since with four grandchildren born within a five month period, there is bound to be some comparing going on - which is not a rational plan. Growing within the womb is clearly the best plan. Being inside Mommy is a better way to develop - and God bless any and every NICU staff in this country. I do not know how they do it. We will see them in less than a month and we can't wait! What a long strange trip it's been.

It's so great to hear good news about little tykes (sorry if I don't always acknowledge it) - sounds like they are really "packin' on the beef" these days; the best sign of all! btw Pat, are you aware your last line in your post is a direct quote from the Grateful Dead? (" Truckin' ", on the American Beauty album, iirc) ![]() |

Mur, Indeed I was. Their parents followed the Dead across the country in a tent (west to east) before they were married. Just a little family of dancing bears. Their rec room in the cellar is dedicated to Jerry. I should edit this - re music. Don walked our oldest daughter down the aisle to "Thunder Road" by Springsteen. Hard to do in a Catholic church but we pulled it off. Most people go with something like Canon in D. We brought our own guitarist. Male wedding attire was navy blazers, grey slacks, blue shirts and Mickey Mouse ties - ties gratis of the groom. We have four daughters - what a long strange trip it's been

My oldest and her DH did the same, for years, before they had their little one (now 11). They went to concerts by the Grateful Dead, all over the world. So glad to hear the little ones are making such progress!

Time is going by faster it seems to me. It is a wonderful thing for those two little hooligans because over time they are strengthening. Thank God for our wonderful Drs.
to Allie and Joey.Just saw where 12 year old from Iraq is over here getting free life saving burn treatment. We live in a great and generous country. Kate |
