Well, I have to do this again :)

They both saw the doctor Friday and they each weigh 11 pounds! Starting at 3 lbs. and change on 9/9 - that's nice growth. Allie can go through the night from 11 - 7. Doctor feels Joey can do the same so Sharon's going to push him a little. All the parents here know what a milestone a real night's sleep is.

The reflux has stopped too. The pediatrician said it was basically time to consider them normal babies and not preemies   (Other than the high calorie formula, expensive prescription formula, monthly shots to protect against RSV, and other little "minor" tidbits.) Winter is a germ horror, so they will pretty much be housebound for a bit, but come spring they'll all be hot to trot.

The big hurdles have been crossed. It was the best of times and the worst of times...they had champagne, gave major thanks, ripped 2005 off the calendar and were in bed by 11.

Can't ever say thank-you too many times

Pat, Thank you

We have an update on little Taylor,

January 03, 2006 at 05:56 PM PST
Happy New Year Everyone! Taylor went to the Dr. last week and she weighed 7 lbs 14 ounces! She's probably 8 pounds by now, almost as big as a sack of potatoes! I really like Dr. Ved, she's great! She told me that Taylor is still at the bottom of her growth scale, she's averaging 15 grams a day and she should be closer to 30. I told her that I hadn't been following the feeding orders, that I'd increased both the strenght and amount Taylor was getting. The Dr. said she was glad I did because otherwise Taylor probably wouldn't have been growing so she wrote me a perscription for the amount I was giving. For those of you who know him, can you imagine the reaction if I'd told Dr. Patel I just decided to increase her food! hehe! Our Dr. is great though. This Dr. office is 2 doc's short (it's the clinic at the hospital) but Dr. Ved makes sure to get Taylor in even if she has to double book, and she doesn't act like she's in a hurry all the time, she really sits down with Taylor and takes a good look then asks me if I have any questions. After her last visit Taylor is getting 70 cc's q 3 hours of Progestemil 27! (That's a big increase!) Taylor is also on special formula which is perscribed, I haven't found it over the counter, we get it from home health, which means if I run out I can't just go buy more, I have to get a Dr. order to get more.

Taylor got a pretty bad cold, and I thought she had a stuffy nose before! We both got a bit of a cold and are both feeling much better now. Her eating is about the same, she'll do really well for a couple days then slack off for a few. The scar from her open heart surgery is looking great... I think it's going to be hard to spot when she's older!

She's really mastered the thumb sucking, I think it will be a hard habit to break but at least I don't have to bring 20 binkies with me everywhere I go. I have a couple clean ones in case of emergency though hehe! She's also been enjoying her Christmas presents, especially the clothes and the play gym... she turns her head and looks at the little lights. It's a safari gym... I'm sure our NICU nurses will remember the safari ensemble! When Taylor was in the hospital I would bring themed "ensembles" onesees, pj's, recieving blankets and regular blankets, and of course, matching hats. They would have themes like the safari theme or the pink with bunnies or the purple with flowers.

Oh yeah, I finally got some new pictures up and Taylor wants me to tell everyone HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dale, glad to help you out.

For all - Taylor is Dale's niece/great niece? who was born last summer and was a teeny-weeny preemie. We've traded stories through the months. This little lady has had lots of hurdles but she's a fighter :)

I've told Dale that Allison and Joey look like "fake" preemies compared to Taylor - and we know they are not.

Medical miracles are happening in NICUs all over this country. The wonderful people who staff those nurseries should be applauded.

Just incase some of you do not know the story behind Taylor,

She is my little Great niece, born on July 29, 2005, 3 months early. When she was born she weighed 1 lb 2 ounces.

this is her first picture without a glass wall,

Yes, that's her daddy's wedding ring that fits her like a big bracelet. Her forearm was smaller than Tom's pinky! She is about 1lb 8 ounces in this picture and 3 almost a month old!
