I'm reading and it all sounds pretty steady and good (except for the liability part). Bless all their little hearts and those that hold them close Kate |

GREAT news, Pat! I just read all the updates. Sorry I haven't been here sooner to read everything. I wouldn't worry about the "liability" issue -- that's the lawyers talking, not the doctors! Prayers continue for all the babies! So tell me, what was going on weather-wise 9 months ago that you've got all these grandbabies at once?

Just had a nice talk with twins' Mommy and Daddy! Mommy is 35 today
No matter what, she's still our little girl and we are so very proud of her.One correction - Allie and Joey will be 37 weeks gestation next Monday. Anyway, Miss Allie is doing really well at home. She falls right at the 50th percentile for weight and height and is now waking herself up every 3 - 3.5 hours to eat and weighs 5 - 10. Sits in her little bouncy seat and looks around...alert longer every day but a good sleeper. Sean is not quite sure that he shouldn't throw balls to or at her. He's learning quickly. lol. Mr. Joseph is now in an open isolette and back over in the Intermediate nursery. No oxygen or anything like that. However, while he is still getting formula (increased by 5cc a day,) his belly isn't right just yet. No glaring problems, but he is gaining weight from the protein solution he gets through the nasal feeding tube and not from "real food." He weighs 6 -7
but it's not real weight? She loses me on some of this since she has a lot to relate. They realize how very lucky they are - sadly, there is a crack baby in NICU now and that is very upsetting to the staff. Poor little thing is obviously not getting "his" drugs and cries and cries. Sharon said crying in the NICU is almost non-existent. Why do people do things like this to defenseless babies? Another little girl we saw in September in the Intermediate nursery is back over on the more serious side and she was born in July. Wow. In any event, we can't wait to get our hands on both of them
Thank you all so, so much for all your help - and your ears

Love hearing your updates, Pat!!!
I would like to think that if drug addicted mothers to be could not take drugs, than they wouldn't take them. Addiction is hard, just look at all the smokers who want to quit but can't. But it is VERY sad that the poor babies have to pay for their mothers weaknesses. |

It's so good to hear such nice news! Joey sounds like a real fighter and he should be right up there with Allie in a few short weeks.

![]() Mimi and Allie. The little guys are doing well. Allie has been home for 10 days and is really great. She eats well, sleeps well, and is alert more every day. She was up this morning from 8:30 until almost 10:30. We are very grateful. Joey is plugging along. The barium finally cleared his system and he is tolerating formula, but his sucking reflex is still poor. The nurse told my daughter this morning it was typical preemie eating. He'll get it. They are only giving him formula now and not the TPN (think those are the right letters - it's a protein solution via IV.) He's eating 45cc - or ml - per feeding and we will hope for the best. He needs practice I hope to get a shot of him through the week. I surely will get down there. Here is Allie by herself this morning. ![]() We have a lot to be thankful for, to be sure - thanks to you all

They are gorgeous. I wonder if they will develop their own language, like many twins do. Argghhh. The term for this is right on the tip of my tongue and won't come out. Aha! idioglossia. This has fascinated psychologists for hundreds of years, okay so maybe several decades, LOL. Of course, right now, they only need a couple of expressions: feed me and change me. TPN stands for Total Parental Nutrition. It is an attempt to synthetically reproduce all of the benefits of breast milk for those babies that can't manage to get the real think. Don't ask me how I know this. I don't have a clue. But I know it nonetheless. You must be so proud! they are beautiful. |

Well, we had an interesting week with the twins. I should say "with twin" since I never got down to see Joey. Don did and we do have digital pix of him but I haven't even had a chance to look at them. Allison, however, I spent a lot of time with and she is a peach. Good little eater, sleeper, looker arounder, etc...Unfortunately she made an ambulance run Wednesday night and spent two nights in the hospital and has aspiration pneumonia and reflux. I guess they thought the reflux had cleared, but apparently not. She's on two prescriptions and seems to be fine...tough little cookie and quite cuddly. Joey is still having a feeding issue. We stayed an extra day so the kids could go down together and spend a fair amount of time with the doctors and see where this is going. Do a lower GI or not? You have to stop his feeds if they do the GI, so that's a concern. This coming week will be fairly telling, I guess. Doctors sound a little stymied too, so we are hoping for something to work. Thanks for all the prayers...they need them. Joey on Saturday and Joey and his parents. Unfortuately, his nasal feeding tube is back in, but he is cute! ![]()
