Well, Allison Patricia arrived at 12:37AM and her little brother Joseph Dean followed her at 12:38AM :):)

Allison weighs 3 lbs. 4 oz. and is 15 1/4" while Joey weighs 3 lbs. 3 oz. and is 15 1/2" long.

They are little people, but are in good hands at Johns Hopkins NICU. Prayers are always welcome :)

Both are perfect, darling, no clear problems other than prematurity. Their lungs are good although they are intubated and will be fed for the time being through their umbilical cords (both standard procedures I am told!)

Our daughter sounds wonderful - they did do a C-section - but she sounds fantastic and kind of higher than a kite.
On the road this morning, but I wanted to share. We'll head for MD after the Jersey shore and spend several days down there. Who knows when I'll be able to check in here.

Thanks and please keep praying!

:) Congratulations to all. I checked in earlier this morning hoping everything would be well.

Their birth weight sounds good and they are being cared for by the best. Now please go relax "alittle". :)

Wonderful news Pat and congrats to Sharon and family. Yes, the birth weights are pretty good so everyone should be able to enjoy the bundles of joy. I'll continue to have prayers for them as their health increases.

Bravo!

That's terrific, Pat!

As I said yesterday, they'll be okay - so much has been learned and developed in the last 30 years, since I became a Dad!

The little people are thriving! Their grandparents are exhausted ;)

Allison and Joey improve daily and honestly do not appear as small as I imagined. We got to see them both Sunday and Monday...Allie has surpassed her birth weight and was 3 lbs. 6 oz. yesterday, and Joey is gaining on his birth weight. They are both breathing room air and their formula intake increases daily. They have no sucking reflex yet (are really 31 weeks gestation, but 11 days old) and have feeding tubes. All very standard we are told. Lots of medical jargon I'll skip, but improvement is steady.

It's been so steady that they were moved out of the main John Hopkins' NICU last Friday night to make room for sicker preemies. Johns Hopkins has several huge medical campuses in the greater Baltimore area and they went to one of them by special ambulance - same services minus certain surgeries. Well, come yesterday, we got over there and lo and behold they had been moved across the hall to Intermediate Care NICU - since they were the most stable babies. (I think a nice sticker on a chart could do as well, to be honest! I wondered if they'd be in a playpen on the roof next!)

The staff we met and talked to in both NICUs were incredible and I know that is typical. God bless them all. We spent two hours there yesterday and our Sharon got to hold both children for a fair amount of time (one at a time.) They do have a lot of lines connected to this and that monitor, but the nurse dresses them in appropriately colored little outfits and swaddles them for mom and dad to hold. This particular nurse was caring for three babies. They work 12 hour shifts. She was great in her information - and the kids have said everyone has been as forthright with explanations.

Sharon is recovering well and we left today since she insisted she was driving and that was that. There was no point in arguing with her. She and Steve need to get their visiting plans down so it meshes with their son's schedule. They are dealing with this beautifully - and know there may be some bumps in the road.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. They're still needed and I appreciate them. You can sure see they work

The weight and maturity of all these little NICU people vary greatly and they all need prayers - some of the success stories and pix on bulletin boards there were phenomenal. I cannot believe the wonders of modern medicine and the caring of good people! I talked to one young woman yesterday who was on her lunch break visiting her daughter who was born in July at 2 pounds. She watched the twins come into the Intermediate room the other night and told me how "big" Joey was - I naturally said his older sister was a little bigger. Grandmas just continue being grandmas ;) Sunday I was chatting with another young mom who lived two hours away and she and her son (born at 24 weeks and weighing a tad over a pound) had been airlifted to Johns Hopkins. She can only get up to visit every other day. It just breaks your heart...

Again, hugs and thanks to you all.
