Kate,
Friends camped in the Outer Banks a couple of years ago and loved it.

We used to go the the Outer Banks back in the 60's when the main road on Ocrakoke was made of landing field metal. We went back a few years ago, and what a difference.
Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money...

We were at Ft. DeSoto this winter and North Beach is beautiful. That whole park is great and worth a visit.
I like the Gulf Beaches, but I'm still an Atlantic Ocean person and I like the waves.

Pat, I knew with your love of the water and sun you would have checked it out.

We did enjoy the west coast but just so much more familiar with east coast. More time down there is what we need.

Outer Banks has changed big time. Big $ and big homes. It is a long drive from Raleigh. Its historic, great boating and fishing, the dunes, kite flying... its different but once you've been a couple of times give me Emerald Isle or Wilmington. Our family in Va Beach can shoot down there for a weekend easy and LOVE it.
