Well, made it to Iowa tonight! We were gonna stop at a Flying J for the night, but decided we would pop into a campground to have electricity (sorry Corky, we are wimps! :floorrollin: :floorrollin: )

Anyway, thank goodness we did, cuz boy did we need our vacuum! :faint:

The cabinet that had my glasses & dishes in it apparently opened during our drive today and lots fell out and broke!!!!! Of course, with the slide in, we couldn't fit to get the glass cleaned up! We swept as much away from the slide as we could, then started to slowly open it. Crunch! :faint:

Greg taped (thank goodness for duck tape!) a ruler to a broom handle, and used it to try to get the glass out from under the slide. I was on the floor with a flashlight trying to see if we got it all! :faint: WHAT A MESS

Long story short, it took about an hour to get that slide opened, and we have one good nick on the countertop and one good scratch on the wood floor! :faint: Oh, and we are a tad lighter overall, cuz we lost a bunch of glassware! Boy, does corelle make a lot of splinters!

All in all, it could have been a lot worse.

Welcome to Iowa! :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Bungee cord your cupboard doors together.
Been there, done that, but it was Bloody Mary mix on the carpet not china.
They do say Corelle shatters badly and I don't want to prove it.

Well, I do put a band around the medicine cabinet, as that is the only thing that I have ever had open before!

You know, that tomorrow, that dish cabinet WILL be secured! :faint:

I just wanted to cry when I saw it....didn't need that after 12 hours on the road! :faint: Greg says we have about 850 miles left to go, so I assume tomorrow will be a long day as well.
Greg, Dylan & Jasper too!

Sorry Jackie to hear about the dishes and glassware. Is it possible that the countertop and flooring may be covered under your warranty?
I'm going to look into purchasing something to keep extra items in so they are safe when traveling. There have been a couple of times we lost some dishes when one of the doors came open, but not glassware.

I doubt the warranty would cover something like that, and not worth filing an insurance claim......damage isn't that bad, just ticked me off, that is strike two! :faint: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

After 12 hours on the road,

Been there. Some how you cope.

I hope you have 2 days left. I've never done more than 650 miles in a day.

I can remember lots of threads in TC Forum on cupboards that open. I admit I like Pat's of using bungee chords. Another is using hooks. That takes longer.

Was it Corellee dishes or Corelle glasses?

Keep on trucking.

:tiphat:

Jackie,
After a day like that you deserved a long hot shower and electricity, I like boondocking, not suffering. If you're not setup for it, boondocking isn't any fun.

Watch Dylan's paws, those flakes from correll are like obsidian and keep cutting.

Jackie, Corky's right. Get Dylan some of those 'house shoes' like the ones Walter uses to give one of his shepherd's traction in the house.

Not to mention wet mop.

:)

I didn't know corelle broke; guess I was thinking of something else. O like the bungee idea. We haven't lost anything out of the cabinets yet, but no need not to learn from other's mishaps. Hope none of the glassware were keepsakes, :(

Sorry to hear about your continuing travel woes!

You know, you ought to write all this down, make a movie, call it, yeah! The Long Long Trailer, yeah!

No Chris, no rocks!!!! Unless you count the ones we already have in our heads!!! :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

The only keepsake was a platter that was Greg's moms. We didn't bring much for momentos, but that was one.

Ya, corelle breaks. It takes a lot, but it does, and it does make a mess. We vacuumed and wiped down the floor area, and vacuumed the carpet about 3 times. I hope we got it all, but may try the booties idea.

Thanks Corky, that's how we felt! :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

PS...Greg is bungeeing the cabinets right now! See, you can teach an old dog new tricks! :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Sorry you're having such a tough time on the road. I can never understand why RV manufacturer's don't use Sugatsune (made in Sweden) locks on their cupboards. Here's what they look like:

Posted Image

They come in a wide variety of colours. We used them on all our cupbords in the RV. We normally put them on all cupboards in our boats. They just push in to lock and release and are very attractive. I believe they are available from hardware stores or you can get them on the Internet. They aren't cheap--the price I found on the Internet is $12.00 each.

Sorry, keep on truckin. Dishes, glasses, can be replaced but having an accident trying to go too far too fast...NOT.

Now that you got the water stains and breakage out of the way you can relax and enjoy your new, broken in home.
