Put a camera between my eye and the subject and I become a blithering idiot! I miss my brownie!!! I ran into problems with your gator picture Lon and whatever it is, it's beyond my level of expertise. I did reduce the file size from 384MB to approximately 80 MB. But for some reason there is an odd format connected with it that I'm not familiar with. Photoshop isn't helping either--it's very user unfriendly, assumes you know a lot of stuff that you don't! Did the best I could with it. Maybe Jo will have more luck with it--it still extends beyond the borders of the page and I'm reluctant to make it much smaller because it would lose too more clarity (that's my word, I think, for 'focus')? Some of my geekiness comes from courses, but like a lot of people, the majority of it is self taught. I'm now to the point that I really don't have the time to learn much more and turn much of the technical crapola to guru's where I buy my equipment. Are these explanations simple enough for you to understand Lon? Sylvia My experience with computers goes back to the 60's when they needed a room of their own because of their size. |

LOL Syl, I remember the computer we had in college. It was in a big building. IT'S OWN big building! You could always tell the kids taking computer courses from the big boxes of punch cards they carried. Who knew that they were the meek that would inherit the earth? I've thought of starting a "crapiest technology" award. Of course, cell phones would be my perennial favorte, but now DVD's have them beat. Who decided that we should go back to recordings that could be scratched, always collect dust like magnets, and have to be told repeatedly to PLAY THE DAMN MOVIE ALREADY! I sure miss 8 track tape decks.........(sigh) |

Lon Frank, Danny (aka cajun cook) here. Saw you talking about the ferry at sabine pass, We go to holly beach often and when the kids were little they loved to ride in the back of the truck and do the truck parade on the beach. Do you know what I am talking about? Now their too old 16 girl and wouldnt be caught doing it. Then about 20 they start it again with friends instead of folks. Thats when I worry. Anyway saw your post. Danny |

Danny, I always watch for your postings, but have gained some weight doing so! Old traditions die hard, and I think that after the big hurricane wiped out so many of the boats over around Cameron, they started the truck parade, rather than a boat regatta. Plus, you know how Cajun people love a parade! We even have a golf cart parade on the Bayou at Christmas. Everyone has lights strung all over their cart, with 12 volt music systems, reindeer on the roof, and about every thing else you can think of. It's a hoot! And I still love Holly Beach. It is the quintesential Gulf coast beach community. I get depressed whenever I drive the beach road out of Galveston nowadays. The west beach is miles and miles of million-dollar mansions, all stucco and glass and even Spanish style like they were in the desert. It's the beach, for cryin' out loud! It's SUPPOSED to have purple houses!

Yea, I love Holleybeach too. Nothing to do there but ride, look, and party. Sometimes thats all I want to do after working all the time. We always bring pits, cajun microwaves and plenty of liquid refreshments to make a good time and just chill! Danny |

Lon, wonderful pictures! I love the color of the wild spoonbills. Have seen them in a zoo, and in Florida, but these have much brighter color. Must be the diet. Someday I think I might like to camp in the Holly Beach or Sabine Pass area. Looks like my kind of thing. When my son gets settled in Texas (Corpus Christs, this summer), I'll be planning a big trip that way. |
