I need some help about my gas installation in my TC. As you know we are planning to ship it to North America this summer and as I’m going to Canada for a week next month I was thinking of buying gas-bottles (propane)when I’m there. Only thing is, its very unlikely that they fit on my gas-regulator, which screws straight on to the tank with a 22 mm thread. Can anybody tell me what the standard is in North America and what thread is used on the propane-tanks. Any help is welcome as I don’t have much time next month in Canada to organise this. No help to you at all Kees but lpg fittings in Oz are completely different again : the bottle has a large female left hand thread fitting, dont know for sure but I don't think it is metric, looks UNC The big push here now is towards exchange bottles instead of filling your bottle, makes it hard for me as I have four really good quality bottles and don't want to give them away for some bottles made in Thailand. As every where all lpg containers must be tested and re stamped after ten years and they are really strict about this. LPG prices vary but a 4.5kg fill costs anywhere from $9.00 to $13.00. Knew you'd be interested !! Poddy Dodger |

Rob, the thread is around 21,8 mm on my bottle but its very likely not metric. Even here where everything is metric, very often carpenters and gasfitters still use, I think what they call Whitworth thread or something similar. All RV here have exchangeable gasbottles but my last Six-Pac unit had a LPG tank fitted, which I like much better ( LPG is only € 0,40 per litre here ). Trouble is, its against the law to fill these things up at gas-stations as this is only for car fuel. Good thing is, nobody cares what you do. Same thing with our LPG tanks every ten years but testing is costing as much as a new one. About 10% of all the cars are running on LPG and with prices like this per litre no suprise. What I’ll do is this, I’ll take my gas-regulator off and take it with me too Canada in 3 weeks time and see what I can find out. I just bought the bottle in the photos and in the shop were I went there was also plastic bottles as well, much lighter but also more expensive. Thanks anyway Kees |

I have the propane problem sorted out. Bought a regulator and flexible hose in Canada and took them to a friendly store here in Haarlem and guess what, the tread on the regulator fits, only one little item needed, total cost; ZERO. Biggest problem was whether the regulator works the same pressure as the European ones, 30 mbar (millibar) to your “so many inch of water column”. Don’t want 6 feet flames when cooking. But fortunately, it’s all the same. That’s another problem solved, thanks for all the input ( he says without a trace of sarcasm )Kees |
