I'm thinking of buying some new cookware; any ideas as to what brand to buy? Are some brands like AllClad worth the money? |

No matter what you buy, make sure they have a life time guarantee. That way, you can return them if they don't hold up, and be assured they'll be replaced free of charge. That's a big factor in our decisions of anything we buy, you know, like Sears Craftsman. We like our Magnalite Professional Stainless Steel cookware, but if the bottom of the pans get too hot, the layer of steel peels off. But the company has replaced those pans. I don't like aluminum pans, or cheap stuff. We have yet to find a non-stick that doesn't eventually come off, even if you use non-stick spatulas, etc. Cast iron is nice, but just too heavy for me. |

John, Most of my cookware consists of Calphalon. It's a bit on the expensive side but if you watch for sales and "special officers" you can save a lot of money. I feel cookware is such a personal choice, some may not like this brand as it does not have the non-stick finish. I also have less expensive pans with the non stick finish for frying bacon, etc. |

Thanks for the help. I've got a mishmash of cookware now and not enough in the 5er. I like cast iron and use it some, but thought a nice set for the house would be nice. I'd probably be better off buying some nice clothes for eating out.

I picked up a couple small skillets and little saucepan from AllClad real cheap a year ago at some online clearance store. Don't remember the website, but on occasion have seen the small stuff real cheap. If you can find something like that and buy one pan first and try it out, it might be worthwile. Wife doesn't use them so don't know about that end. They are pretty though. |

I really love my stainless steel Cuisinart pots and pans. The heavy bottom is very flat and works well on the glass cooktop, plus it doesn't burn the food as easily as thinner ware. Years ago I gave Mom and Dad a pricey Calphalon stewpot and the coating seems to have worn or burned off. Though I use a T-Fal pan for quick sauteing, for braising and stewing or other long cooking I definitely prefer the bright stainless finish. It forms a beautiful "fond" or crust for deglazing. |

We have Lifetime pots & pans....and yes, they were quite expensive. However, we have had them for 25 years now, and they still look brand new. Also, they will replace them if handles fall off, or something like that. Plus, if there are pans in a set that you don't use, they will let you "trade" them in towards something different. At least they did up until a few years ago! LOL I actually have a Lifetime pan in my collection that was my Mother in Law's, and that thing has gotta be 50 years old if its a day! I don't expect I am ever gonna buy another pot or pan for the rest of my lifetime, unless I need some specialty pan. |

Oh Jackie, never eat that stuff too many chemicals, but I don't work so I have no excuse. I understand, my daughter doesn't cook every night and I give her my sermon about it.

Wife could always swing a good pan. Now that we're getting older and slower she's prefering the lighter pans and skillets. I however prefer the heavier ones. They slow her down. She's a little older than me and I've still got some dive and duck. |

joel Maybe that's why Cheryl doesn't like the cast iron skillets and griddles I have.

OOh, you could hurt yourself, trying to whack somebody with a cast-iron pan! Seriously, although they do a good job of cooking certain things, I dislike cast iron because it takes so much babying. Give me good, heavy stainless steel any day (and it looks pretty too). |
