BTW, was that Mme. DeFarge, or duFarge? I can't find my copy of Tale of Two Cities?
Does anyone know?

This thread triggered some talk at work (the wide spread influence of CS at work) over the question of carpel tunnel syndrome.

So, I brought in a sleeve from the current project. The sleeve is on a 15" circular needle, thus seamless.

I showed what I do to 4 gals at work and how I use my hands differently from the usual throw your stitch method. One of my those shown tried the method last night and could see the difference to her hands right away. She also found a magazine article this morning. & that got me thinkiing.

So, here are a couple of websites.

Picking your stitches:
Combined Knitting Webpage

The only really different thing I do from that site is to knit on. It's pretty much as the the posts here: Knitted cast on A knitted cast on makes a better, longer lasting edge because it's double on the edge.

Thanks for the link, Lynne; I'll check it out.

At the hairdresser's yesterday as I waited for my Mom, I was looking thru a basket of the Fun Fur scarves they had gfor sale. They were shorter and skinnier than mine, the fur wasn't as pretty, and the price tag on each: $30!!!! For 2 hours of work and $8 worth of yarn?

Re. knitting styles article.

The magazines is Creative Knitting, March 2005 http://www.creativeknittingmagazine.com/
The issue on the webpage is January!!! Looks like one might have to wait 2 months to get the March issue online.

The article is in the "In the Know" section. "it's all in the hands" by Kathleen Power Johnson. None of the photos show holding the work the way I do with the ring and little finger. But it does go into a bit of how to and energy-expended vs. result achieved comments. I shall read the article later.

The key for carpel tunnel to me is that the grip is NOT thumb vs. rest of hand but in those two end fingers & exercises a different part of the hand.

Maybe, more later.

:)
