Danny sent me ten great photos of the parade and celebration yesterday; I picked five as representative of the fun they had.
Trailblazer, were you there? :)

hey everybody, had a great time at the only cajun mardi gras you would ever want to see!!

In the first pic. thats a guy that couldnt afford a horse to ride, so he made him one.

In the second one, that is the start of the riders 2600 total, when I tell you it took 2 and 1/2 hours for everyone to pass, thats not a lie!

Where I live they have to go past us down a one way in and one way out road, to get to the red barn where they have lunch and turn around and come back the same way they came in. ( you want to talk about confusion) LOL For the last 30 years this is the tradition.

The guy holding the chicken was just about to get arrested by the sheriff dept. He made the mistake of putting the chicken in the deputys horse's face. (dont mess with the dep. horse)

Number five is a friend of my daughther who would like to model or act in movies,(keep this in mind)

Number 6 , The Mardi Gras Run is about 12 miles long, how would you like to ride that bicycle for the whole ride?? He didnt either, I saw the bike on a trailer at about the 4 mile mark. Danny

Hey Miss Heather, Did you get the package I sent you yet??

Thanks, Danny! I was beginning to get worried; thought you'd done too much partying. (The thought of arrest never entered my mind. Did they really arrest that guy for molesting the deputy's horse? :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin: )

A package... no, not yet...how exciting! I will certainly be watching the mail!

No, he got off with a warning. The way it goes is that when you get to a house at certain points on the run, The captain (in the yellow cape) will ask the farmer if he has anything to give to the riders to make a gumbo for them to eat. Then the farmer gets a chicken and all the riders get off the horse and he throws the chicken in the air and they all chase it till one person catches it. At that point he is the captain for the next chicken toss. So on and So on for about 10 chickens. Then they bring the chickens and anything else the farmers give, (rice, sausage, etc.) back to the starting point and they make a gumbo and play music and dance all night long.

This is the start of the lent season that last for 40 days and nights.

But really the gumbo has been cooking all day long, because there are so many riders they have to do it ahead of time. 10 chickens divided by 2600 riders dont go far. Danny

The package is not much. I will explain when you get it. Danny

Kate, sorry, I really should have resized them, but resizing makes them lose so much immediacy and impact.
