Its so funny to look at my dog's shadows.

The dogs are cute, but the shadows are really fun.

Doc the schnauzer with his cropped Batman ears and Jenny the little cocker with her long ears.

Go for a walk and look at the shadows of my companions. So much of the good about them exagerated by the sun.

I like dogs, just don't want to own one. Because of vet bills, doggie poo in my yard, doggie sitter fees etc. My son and his family have a dog, and they bring him over on visits. He's kind of like my grand dog. Always glad to see me, and good company. And, I can send him home with his family.

I heard an interesting piece on NPR a while back. People were relating how their parents had adopted dogs after the kids left home, and then seemed to prefer their dogs to visits from their kids and grandkids. It was humurous the way it was presented.

I grew up in a house full of people. 9 siblings & parents. Now with just my daughter and I, we have 2 cats, 2 dogs and 2 birds. Makes it feel like a full house.

Yup, dogs are messy in the back yard but they sure are nice to cuddle up with at night. ;)

Kinda works the same way for older folks and cats, tom. My wife and I are among (I'm ashamed to admit) the people who talk to their cat in terms of "Mom" and "Dad".... ie; when my wife comes home, it's "WHERE'S MOM? Yeah, you hear the door, right? Go see Mom! Atta Girl!" And she does.....

..... bloody pathetic, when you get right down to it - but I do it anyway, and so does my wife.

And then we marvel that we can take her camping, even on walks, and she stays within 10 or 15 feet of us all the way. :dunno:

What's really bad is when you know whatyour animals are thinking by the looks on their faces. Right now as I write this Annis is sitting in the drivers seat of the MH and the look she has just screams, Varoom, varoom, varoom. Why aren't we going yet? Redd is sitting in in co-pilot spot, her look says "you gotta have the keys, stupid aussie!

Corky, I can just see them sitting in the seats, all they need are
sun shades.

Frosty's only 6 months old, but he has earned a spot in our hearts already. He dances by twirling and I swear that he looks like a toddler when he gets up on his hind legs and walks toward us. About the only thing he hasn't mastered is the English language. He does, however, reproduce many of the sounds a toddler would make. When he cries--he sounds really broken-hearted.

The expressions on his face are amazing--he looks so happy and friendly all the time. Just gotta instruct his groomer that he's supposed to look like a dog -- not a kid with a hairy chin. He likes cheese of all things. There is no way either of us will ever be able to eat a piece of cheese again without sharing it.

We take turns being master and pet! If he gets much smarter, I'll see if I can teach him how to type. :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Well, this morning after dog breakfast, I said the usual "out". They started to head for the door, sort of. I repeated and kept repeating gradually changing from a human alpha pack leader to a high pitched "out" . Ok you try it. Out, Out, Out. Sort of like a 10-15 lb canine 'Yip, Yip, Yip'. I got it right to. You should have seen the look the Kwitnm gave me. "Now, what do you mean speaking to me as if you were smaller than me?"

& didn't that make me :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Pentax,

We have a coach cat and it is amazing how smart they can be. When we get to a campsite we walk her around a little while with a leash on to checkout the area. After that she will walk with us just like your cat does. When we are at home we are always saying "where's the baby". She can never make up her mind where she wants to sleep.

I don't have any grandchildren yet (and would love to be a Grandma!) so my son's cat Chloe will have to do for now. I did send her a Christmas package, with a kitty stocking to hang, and kitty toys in it for her. I know...pathetic. :)

The Cat Rules are perfect, Syl - especially the part about standing at an open outside door and contemplating the Universe.
