Well, I'm glad to see you kept your clothes on, Joanne!!!! Bourbon St. is so cool - can't imagine what it's like on Mardi Gras. I love New Orleans. We were flying out of there once and the airline cancelled so they got us a room (hah! mini-suite) at the Hilton on the river right by the new casino with meal comps. Nicest room I've ever been in and we've seen a few hotels. The next day they flew us, six couples who were stranded, first class to Chicago before boarding our regular normal coach seats to go home - we were the only people on the plane! The crew and aircraft had been stranded too. That was a trip. No wonder airlines are losing money. LOL! |

Oh shucks I missed it. Was watching GW and Laura :shhh: Bet you and yours was more fun. Went in this morning but I'm guessing that beaded person was not you, Trailblazer. Love New Orleans too. Enjoy, :blah: Kate |

I've always wanted to visit New Orleans but don't know if I'd go the first time during Mardi Gras. Guess I've watch COPS too much on Fox!

Live Bourbon Street Cam at The Cat's Meow Club Here are a couple of pics retrieved from the Bourbon Street Cam archives from last night... ![]() Richard and I are in the street (above).... and he has on the turquoise (light blue) pull over, jeans, and dark blue ball cap, and I have a large feather mask on. This next picture is later in the evening (about 10:40 pm) and I am being interviewed for the Bourbon Street cam. I am pointing out the different cams on the corner, in the bar windows. ![]() Now I wish I had gone to this cam everytime I had a different costume. This is a great way to have your picture taken on Bourbon Street, and retrieve it from their archives. PRT...the Hilton is really nice. We took the trolley along Riverfront and stopped at the Hilton to shop at the mall. How great to have stayed there, then flown 1st class! Lucky you! I have never flown 1st class. I wouldn't know how to act! Harrah's casino has a great buffet for the price, all things considered in that area. We stayed 1 block from there at the Pelham for free for 3 nights (a perk from a time share presentation in Sedona, Ariz. a few months ago.) Then we stayed 2 nights at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street, a 2nd floor balcony room!! That was awesome. We threw about 1,300 beads from the balcony, and partied all night. It was a blast. august-alberta...Mardi Gras is pretty fun, but you don't have to go during Mardi Gras time...Bourbon Street is always fun, and there's so much to do in New Orleans anytime of the year. It's fun to go up on a balcony and just watch the crowds below. Sometimes it is exactly like watching "Cops!" Last night 2 mounted patrols rode their horses into the Royal Sonesta Hotel bar, just for fun and pics. New Orleans and Mardi Gras are very safe, if you just use common sense like you would in any big city...for example, don't take a wallet or purse, don't get too drunk, don't walk out of the main tourist area. (Outside the French Quarter.) |

Great pics
If you are shrimp lover, you might take 1 HR drive to Venice (SP). I tried to convince my wife to shrimp eating for 20 years with no success, but it took "fresh catch" in Venice village restaurant for $5.95 A POUND to make her loving them. |

BTW I kept the camera view as a back screen for last 1/2 HR (it is 2:11 AM there) and even people dancing on the intersection were no surprise to me (after being there in person in the past) BUT WHY IS EVERYBODY CARRYING A CUP THERE???? |

Kaj, no glass containers allowed on the street. You drink from paper containers only, which is the reason for the cups. Joanne, have you tried a Hurricane? It is a huge and slightly dangerous concoction that was the drink of choice when I was there in 1980. Webcam is fascinating. I spent a long time on it, just looking and remembering. I loved Mardi Gras but doubt I'll ever do it again, at least, not there. |

kajtek1...Heather is correct. Drinking alcohol is allowed in public, but no glass containers. And yes, we have been to Venice! We drove down that way from NO last year, just days after 2 ships collided on the Mississippi River just south of Venice. We also visited Fort Jackson, and as we stood on the levy there, it was so weird seeing no ship traffic at all on the Mississippi due to the rescue efforts going on at the time. We did eat in Venice at a little restaurant...I think we had shrimp po' boys. We love shrimp, any way it is fixed! Heather... Hurricanes are the best! We 've had them at Pat O'Brian's on Bourbon Street, singing at the piano bar. I really regret not having posed for the webcam more often while in the French Quarter. The camera should be quite entertaining in the next 3 or 4 weeks!!!! Maybe we should have that webpage on favorites!!! |

This isn't a Bourbon Street Cam picture....we took it with the digital. One at a time, 2 mounted patrols rode their horses into our hotel bar. Richard lightened up the inside of the bar so you can see the horse better. I love this picture. The horses know they are going inside this bar. They must put on this show often for the crowds.![]() |
