Good ones, Pentax. There have been some like the Sask one around here too - like when St. John's got a whole late winter whacking of about a month of 'big ones' & some of the Labradorians have shared 'tunnel' pictures too. I don't have any of those. Nevermind, I remember being storm stayed in St. Johns on March 23 (+/-) about 19 years ago. When I finally got home the next day, I had to park on the street and swim to the house through should high snow. I'll bet it was the next year I started paying to have my driveway done by he who has a farm tractor snow blower. Do you still have the snow that fell last weekend? Are we still quiet, Kees? Sounds to me more like reverse bragging rights. Who can up with the deepest snow story/pic. |

Canadian here, not cold, no snow, did get two inches and we almost had to close the city down!!! We live in the tropics of Canada, on Vancouver Island, we rarely get snow, and when we do I love it. Apparently they got more up Island then we did, my sister says she got about 10 inches. That is a heck of a lot of snow for here. No one owns snow shovels or snow boots, and forget snow tires. A pet peeve I have is EVERYONE who lives here says " I can drive in the snow cause I'm from the Praires" well, guess what , last time I was in Calgary it was flat as a board, driving here in the snow is a nightmare as Victoria is very hilly and the roads do not run is straight grid patterns like they do in many other cities.Curves and hills!Of course no snow tires, no sand trucks, one or two snow plows for the whole city, and you wonder why 2 inches freaks us out!

.........................Yep, Sylvia,
I've seen that middle picture before, but not the first one. It could be the TCH though. About 3 years ago there was a late winter when the Avalon Peninsula, that which includes St. John's, really got it big time. I think those pictures are from that year. That's exactly, what I was thinking of.A peculiar thing re. this island. In 1929 there was an earthquake which gave the south coast a tsunami. There are those who claim that before that earthquake it was the eastern part of the island that got real winter, but after it real winter moved to the west coast. I don't think it's that event that did this, because there are books which show parents in St. John's carefully shepherding their children 'under' power lines, while they would step over them - less than two feet between power lines and packed snow. That's from just before World War II (1939 y'all below the border). These days, people in St. John's expect the snow to melt a few days after it falls.

So, Americans go to Sask, eh? Some of the bills have colours, too. & the underneath bill in the nearest players space definitely looks like an old CAD $20.00 That bill part green, part buff and part yellow. (I just checked my purse). I also looked at the bills thinking Canadian Tire money, but no, not that. |

It never occurred to me that the picture might not have been taken in Saskatchewan? But I looked at it more carefully and not only is that American money they are playing with, that is also American beer and Wise potato chips are an American product which I don't believe is sold in Canada. So I regret that the picture fooled me. It came from Joe-ks.com which is a Canadian site. Good for you Jackie--you spotted it. Makes me wonder if the other two pics were taken in Newfoundland? Oh, well -- it's just in fun, but I'll look more carefully in the future. It was really snowing hard here earlier this evening, but it's stopped now. Have pictures of myself in my Grandmother's backyard where snow drifts tower over me--looked like I was about six. I'll try to find them. Sylvia |
