LOL. You're not the first person I've heard that went to Florida and it was freezing. Did you take warm clothes? LOL! |

Joann, Actually we did since we drove...leave here in winter, you are wearing warm coats, boots, gloves, etc...Two days in Disney wearing ski jackets leaves a lot to be desired, but we were way more comfortable than people who flew down and only packed shorts and sandals. LOL! |

Cold weather is fine if you're dressed for it. One of the nicest Christmas holidays we took was one year we rented a class A and took it skiing in Quebec. We parked at the base of snow hills in the parking lots for the resorts. We always watched the ski patrol do the closing of the hill carrying flashlights that are aimed to the sky. By that time we were in the comfort of the RV drinking hot chocolate or something a 'wee' bit stronger. A couple of times we have been to North Carolina when it has snowed right after Christmas. And they have no idea on how to drive when they hit by ice storms--we stay off the roads and let them have at each other. Cars litter the highways and are abandoned in the most unusual places. We prefer to have our snow at home thank you very much where there is the equipment to deal with it and motorists are accustomed to driving in it. Sylvia |

Skiing in Quebec! Wow, I'll bet that's beautiful. And staying in an RV to boot! I'll have a hot buttered rum, please! National Weather Service says snow in El Paso!

I think some states south of Pennsylvania do not have snow removal equipment in their budgets - at least not the b i g plows we have. Nor do they need them; they can just close the state! We were stranded in the Charlotte, NC airport about five years ago. There might have been 2" of snow that had fallen. There was a plane, there was a crew, there was a dusting of snow on the runways. There were also all these native Syracusans going home and we were amazed!!! They closed the airport. They closed the town. It was insane. We have had planes de-iced about three times on the same flight getting out of here in the winter - no one cares. We're getting out

Jackie, thanks for the link to the Coleman heaters. Which one do you have? I like the looks of these much better than the old "tippy" looking ones; they look a lot more stable. I really need something for the van as I like to use Wal-Mart and Flying J, etc, for layovers when travelling, rather than try to find a CG and pay $30+ for utilities I really don't need. Also, I see they now have a model that will run up to 8 hours. Do you find they will hold a nice even temp? Sylvia...you can have all my share of this stuff. And, watch out what you wish for; you might get it! I am never exactly delighted to see it snow, but the very worst is on Christmas Eve, with 9 of the 15 who will be here, having to drive from the New Haven area for a family dinner and gift opening. I am always so nervous they won't be able to make it and we will be stuck with that huge dinner! Of course, if it starts to snow after they get back home, (about 11 pm) and snows all night to make a Christmas card in the morning, that is the perfect world scenario!

It just makes me want to break out in song when I see snow falling. The problem isn't that there is too much of it, there isn't enough of it. One of these days, we aren't going to have any snow for Christmas at the rate global warming is taking place. Snow does serve some very useful purposes--it protects the plants from freezing, provides water for lakes and streams, kills overwintering harmful insects, and lots of other things. It's also wonderful for adults and children and to play in. There is skiing, walks in the snow, sledding, skating, making snow creatures on the lawn, snow ball fights or buildng an igloo, or just marvelling at how beautiful it is. There is nothing like sitting 'round a blazing fire with a hot buttered rum cider in your hand after being out in the snow. You just have to learn to drive in it and keep your vehicles properly equipped for the conditions. There is no way I'd like to live in a climate where there aren't four seasons. I have to admit that we come south to escape the coldest part of it, but that is only because we are much older. Being old is such a short period in one's lifetime. And I know lots of people in their 70's and 80's who still enjoy winter. They haven't forgotten how to enjoy it. If life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. Sylvia |
