Spread, IN THIS ORDER, in a 9x12 glass pan: (Note - layer these ingredients - Do not MIX)

1 can crushed pineapple, 14 or 19 oz. size (including juice)
1 can cherry pie filling
1 package white or yellow cake mix (dry)

Sprinkle with crushed nuts (walnuts, or pistachioes, etc)

Spread 1/2 cup butter, in small pats, over top of cake mix/nuts.

Bake at 350, for 35 - 40 minutes.

Be prepared for a "sugar rush".

I use to make this years ago, got the recipe from my Aunt. Had forgotten about it! Thanks for the reminder.

Just FYI you can substitute the cherry pie filling for another!

I love this cake and have made it many times. It's such fun to build!

I did fantasize a little about changing the ingredients, but it is so good the way it is. As you say, a sugar rush!

You can use the unsweetened pineapple in natural juice.

AZ for the winter! :-)
Thanks for the recipe. Someone here at the park made that for potluck and my other half loved it.

Oh, oh....does that mean I have to make it? :)

I should point out - someone on another Forum tried it today, but didnt notice that that I said "DRY", for the cake mix. She used a couple of eggs ,and I guess it was ok, but she has a problem with eggs and didnt feel that well later - though the others in the family were okay.

Just layer the cake mix, outta the box - and dont skimp on the butter pats.

And yes, lately we have been buying ED Smith "Wildberry" instead of the cherries - just as good and just a shade less rich. (It's made in Delaware, so you should all be able to find it.)

Help, did I do this wrong? I dumped just like you said, but it wasn't a cake that turned out, it was more of a gooey pudding stuff. Tasted great, but kids didn't want to eat it since they are not into gooey stuff. Guess I'll have to finish it all myself!

And you're right, its not really "cake" - my wife says more like an upside-down "melange"..... whatever the heck THAT IS! :dunno:

Sounds good and rich. But I'm disappointed, was expecting Dump Cake to be something more like Kitty Litter Cake. :coffee:

Pentax, maybe you could edit the recipe to add "Do NOT Stir!". If I hadn't made this before (from the cookbook "The Cake Doctor") I might have been tempted to stir it.

Also, it is a lot easier to melt the butter and drizzle it over the top. Easier to get it even, IMO. Just an idea.

There you go with that kitty litter cake again. I'm beginning to worry about your fascination with uhhhh things that remind us of "poop". :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
