I'm finding it very difficult to think about a low carb menu this coming holiday season. I need to get my act together now and lose some weight before Thanksgiving and Christmas or at least try. My will power has gone down the tubes, but I will say these low carb recipes look appetizing. Sylvia, I look forward to the low carb Old Time Christmas Cookie recipe -maybe if I make them I could pig out and won't feel guilty. |

Old-Time Christmas Cookies--0 Carbs 1 cup butter, room temperature 1/2 c nonhydrogenated shortening 1/2 c + 1/3 c Splenda 1 egg 3/4 tsp (from the package) Kool-Aid (this is for colouring; choose red or green) 1 c vanilla-flavoured whey protein powder 1/2 c. oat flour 1 tsp baking powder 1. In large bowl, mix butter, shortening & 1/2 cup of Splenda until creamy. Add egg and mix. Add drink mix, protein powder, flour & baking powder & mix until blended. Refrigerate 30 minutes 2. Preheat oven to 350 F. 3. Put remaining 1/2 cup Splenda in small bowl. Roll dough into 60 balls & roll each lightly in Splenda. Place on ungreased baking sheet 2" apart. Bake 5-7 minutes until browned, checking frequently so they don't burn. Remove immediately to rack to cool. Makes 60 cookies *** Have no idea where you would get whey protein powder, but at zero carbs it's worth calling around to find it. I know they say the cookies are zero carbs which supposedly means you can eat tons of them, but I'm very sceptical of stuffing myself with them and not having it show on my waist-line. But I really did enjoy the low carb diet, but it took a long time before I began to lose weight on it. That was the second low carb diet I had been on--the first time, I lost weight much quicker and easier. The only thing I yearned for when on it, was fresh fruit. Don't think I'd go on a strict low carb diet again because of it--the South Beach diet sounds like it's a more balanced approach--I'll try the SB diet right after Christmas. Chrissy, let me know if you make the cookies and how they taste. Sylvia |

Sylvia, it might not be 0-carb, but I imagine powdered milk would work as well. |

Richard and I both looked at the Old-Time Christmas Cookies recipe and said "Wow" together. We'd love to make those. |
