Why Bush Won.

Banan, you know I've been, well, a little more "passionate" about this lately than I usually am. But, I agree with you totally. The Dems need to reevaluate their mission and their goals to appeal to the more moderate section of the population.

You bring up an interesting point, though. Do tactics like Fahrenheit 911 do more harm than good to their proposed intent? When does spin become so blatant that it just turns people off it's very purpose?

I saw a woman author on TV the other night, who was an advisor to the Bush camp. She was asked about the seven minutes Bush sat in the school after being told that the towers had been attacked. If she would just have said, "it was protocol, set by the Secret Service; he was waiting for their clearance to move from the building", I would have bought it, and thought someone at the SS needs to re-think their protocol! But, no! This bimbo has to smile, and say that it was just the right decision for him to make, and how happy she was that our President could sit and read with school children in a time of crisis. Give me a break! Our nation is clearly under attack, and he sits for 7 minutes? What did YOU do for the next 7 minutes when you heard about it?

To put it in perspective, imagine you were told that the school where your kid attends has had a plane crash into it. I think that 7 SECONDS would have enough time for me to get to that school! But the point is not whether his action was correct or not, it's just that the spin gets so ridiculous that is's sickening.

Let me give you all a lesson.. :)

I will give you and example of why it is not the Democrats, their positions or how they present it.

The overwhelming majority of those that voted for Bush believe that he is anti abortion.

BUT OUT OF HIS OWN MOUTH HE STATED, ‘MY GOAL IS TO REDUCE ABORTIONS. NOT ELIMINATE THEM..’

How does this falsity get broadcast?

Out his own mouth Bush has said he understands the following reality:

Both Houses are Republican. Even with Democrat support, a anti abortion bill will never pass Congress. And Bush would never sign it. It would be the death of a nation if such a bill passed. No law would be more violated. It would bring disregard to all laws and civility. Even the Catholic Church understands the reality of legislation.

But the Republicans will continue to speak as they would support such a law. They will continue to vote for such a law. Because they know it will never come to pass.

They will continue to voice the, ’reality position’, on occasion. But vote the anti abortion position.

If by chance enough Democrats crossed over to threaten a possibly successful bill.. Republicans would move to block it.. But Republicans know that democrats will never take that chance.

So how do you fight someone who takes both positions and will be willing to take up arms for your side when push comes to shove.

You can’t.

It’s magic. It is smoke and mirrors. Only time will reveal the truth.

I agree with Tom. Bush and team played better politics, i.e., he who panders best wins popularity contests.

Which explains why Clinton served two terms.

Explains why Reagan won twice as well, but he crossed over left to right. Clinton moved from left to middle. Bush moved middle to left and his base now prays he will reverse course. Lots of luck--to us all!

Reagan and Clinton won because of economic issues..

Bush won because of Iraq and he is anti agnostic.

IMO, voters were divided on who best could handle the economy, the Terror War and Iraq, but it was moral values that tilted the vote Bush's way. There is little doubt some of that stems from a reaction to the lying lack of morals of previous presidents.

Chris says:

Buddy says:

Bush is no doubt a anti agnostic. But I would also say he is obviously not religious. Christian yes. Religious no.

Yes, I believe the voters THINK THEY KNOW Bush's MORALS.. I don’t think they truly do.

Very, very few Americans even know that Bush is Methodists. And there is a reason for that. It would not play well with the southern vote.. He would not be of the masses..

Bush was the no name religion. He was anti agnostic. And let the rumor mill fill in the blanks.

Would that make him a Massachusetts Methodist? :)

I heard the other day he and Kerry are related in some way.

They are related by marriage.

I think Kerry's 3rd cousin Bill, married Bush's 4th cousin Leo. In a civil ceremony.. :)

Hugh Hefner another cousin was best man..

Chris, as good a guess as Striesand is, I think it's too much to hope for.

And Pat, that's OK, so long as it wasn't on a $20 bill yet!
