Born and raised in Illinois I am naturally curious and this year also bemused by the turn of events in the Senatorial race there. Bemusement has turned to dismay over the recent turn of events.

"As the lopsided campaign went into its final hours, Keyes returned to what he called 'issues of conscience' like stem-cell research and said that Obama 'is wrong in taking the evil and wicked position on every single one of them.'"

I thought Keyes was conservative? Nothing but a social conservative.

"issues of conscience" --  A conservative would argue for "liberty of conscience".

History tells us "It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own." --Thomas Jefferson

Is that Ubama's reply: "I think everybody is accustomed now to Mr. Keyes' histrionics and I don't think it's going to have much impact on this election." :groucho:

Obama brushes off Keyes 'histrionics' in final hours of Senate race
Politics is the art of achieving the maximum amount of freedom for individuals that is consistent with the maintenance of social order.
