I started not to read the ad this morning at the breakfast table but Soros had his picture at the top with a disclaimer "A Final Appeal". He has unwittingly has made the case for re-electing GWB. He points out that Bush has strength of faith in troubled times, that Bush is fostering democracy, that Kerry is "nuanced" (that's been called flip-flop) and that if we re-elect Bush the war on terror will not end. It apears that Soros has a clandestine agenda but not the wit to pull it off. Lest we forget what Soros is about look to his book, "The Bubble of American Supremacy", for clairification. |

His open agenda is something I'm a little surprised is not more at the forefront. A foriegner so blatently thowing that much money around - openly trying to affect our elections. Too much! :mad1: Too bad that ad can't be linked - I'd like to see it & send it around. |

Problem of overdemocratization. When everyone gets a voice, few ar heard. Money speaks louder than reason. Same with the the 527s. |

I find it most amazing that George Bush is still in this race. The pounding he has taken from the "mainstream media" has been the most virulent I can remember and I go back a way. Even twenty years ago it would have withered any candidacy. It points to an increased degree of sophistication of many as newspapers and the broadcast news channels become more and more irrelevant. Many new and divergent new sources are available, including the internet. Monopolized news is dangerous. If my memory serves me correctly Joseph Stalin was the controller of all the media in the Soviet Union, and he propelled himself to the top by its management. Frank |

Yes, it's facinating to watch the changing of the media, and I will look forward to the books on the topic that are sure to be produced from this election cycle. Many specific bad calls by the media, which seems to expose their biases. The old guard such as the big 3 network news outlets, as well as the newspapers "of record" are all struggling to keep up with the new, faster, more flexible media of the 21st century. It's a real classic on change mis-management. Seems like some real desparate last ditch attempts to remain on top. |

Is he not an American citizen? If so, he's as much of a "foreigner" as Schwarzenegger...... ![]() ps, Arnie is not the first - the current Governor of Michigan was born in Richmond, BC..... |

Frank "I find it most amazing that George Bush is still in this race. The pounding he has taken from the "mainstream media" has been the most virulent I can remember and I go back a way." And Democrats shake their heads and say the opposite about the pounding Kerry has taken. What about the pounding the nation has taken because it? |

Jennifer Granholm? She's a babe! And, not too bad a governor for a dem. I think she wants to get the state fingers in our pockets a little deeper though. I've heard some talk of a tax on services (ie; labor). I and a lot of others will make a stink if they try to push that one thru. |

Granholm.... thanks tomrobin - the name escaped me at the time. Yeah, she moved as a child to California, I believe. And her "digging into your pockets" - sorry to say this, but that would probably be the Canadian in her.....

WATCH OUT for thatone, tomrobin - if, as I suspect, you're somewhere close to the Canadian border, youve probably heard of the GST (Goods and Services Tax). Same idea as the VAT (Value Added Tax), in Australia and elsewhere. The GST came in nearly 20 years ago - its still here, even though Canada has had nine years of "surplus" (paying BACK the debt) Budgets. It means if you have a mechanic put a starter in your truck for 100 bucks, you not only pay 7 bucks tax on the starter, you pay 7 bucks tax on the 2 hours he worked on it too. I bet you wont like that...... |
