Bob and weave, shift and step.  The truth is still THE TRUTH!

Easy, DD - its a better argument to attack the concept, not the debater.... :nono:

I am atacking the concept. That is the concept of many. I atack it AND those that employ it.

Daniel;

To expect this group to tell you why one particular politician is lying when they all do...

I don't know if it's uncivil, but it most definitely is unrealistic.

The refusal to be honest with America by this President should be enough to give him the boot. That it may not scares me.

Why is it that some will believe only what they want to believe? Nevermind I already know.

Look, as has been said on here before - at some point we all get a certain jelling in our thoughts which forms a foundation. From this foundation we tend to gather thoughts that line up with it, and reject the others. We all do this.

It really becomes appearent in politics. Liberals then tend think conservatives are bad folks with suspicious motives, and conservatives tend to think liberals are stupid and want communism. That may be an extreme generalization, but I think basic elements have much validity.

Different visions. I don't see things the way you do, and visa versa. We don't convince each other often, because of this basci foundational vision in all of us. It took years to get that way, and people don't really change their foundation very often. It is a question of values.

And values, according to many, and now the LA Times op-ed, is what is driving the divide in politics. Economics, because it is numbers based, is easier to prove. Values are more closely akin to things like faith - unseen & harder to prove.

I'll stop there, least I ramble too much. Your thoughts, if I don't say it enough, are appreciated as I am learning something hopefully - bear with me! ;)

Teryt- Your right, I value the truth and my foundation is based on knowing the truth. My values are as well based on the truth. When I make mistakes I admit it.

The current administration as well as any other needs to be honest about this war with the American public. We have a right to know what our people are fighting for. I'm not sure I know what that is.

I hope the families of the dead American soldiers find out the truth too.

Hopefully they wont be shot to death in their sleep because they don't know who they sleep with.

It amazes me that people hold on so tightly (me included) to what we view as the truth.

A wise man found himself in an argument with another. The other person asked him, "Might you be deceived?" The wise man said, "Certainly. Isn't that the nature of deception!?"

Why should this president be held to any higher standard than any of his predecessors. It's just not politically wise to do so.

Being president isn't like being your sibling, parent or co-worker. You find many of them are less than perfectly honest too. Your unrealistic idealism is showing Daniel.

I didn't know that it was unrealistic to demand honesty and truth from those that would send people off to die in a war.

Daniel;

Maybe Mark Twain can explain what's going on today:
Quote:

Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.
