Beautiful, we left a little early for the fall colors but managed to visit Vermont two times and headed north and saw wonderful colors. Took pictures, but putting them on the internet is another story. We forgot the digital cameral with all the madness in Florida, but if we put our 35mm prints on a disc maybe we can figure it out.

Jack,

What's that tiny little house in the bottom right corner? It looks like a toy?

It is a gorgeous time of year isn't it. Travelling through the States last week, it was beautiful in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and of course, Ontario. Not too many deciduous trees that are red in our backyard--lots of yellow, ochre, and shades of yellowish-green. We forgot to take our digital camera, but did buy one of those instant cameras...will be taking the film in to be developed this afternoon--just hope we were able to capture some of it.

Sylvia: The "little house in the prairie" looks small as it is at the far end of my property (about 300ft) while the first nice yellow tree on the pic is much closer (maybe 50ft).
The little house in one of my garden sheds. All these nice colored leaves are now on the ground. Almost nothing left in the trees.
We will have a "leaf party" next week-end with the kids and grand-kids and we'll fill-up around 150/175 super-jumbo plastic bags. This will be picked-up by the recyclers to feed our municipal compost factory.

Beautiful shot Jack. The only trees that have any color left in our yard is a purple Ash and the huge old Silver Maple. The rest have mostly discarded their plumage and have been swept up and put into the compost pile. It is full but rain today will settle it to make room for more. The "burning bush" outside the office window is flaming red and a few of the wild flowers still with color are just about done. The shelter belt on the west side is all spruce, white pine and and have lost their normal amount of needles. Still, they are green and that is better than the bare trees. Oddly, our Jonathon apple tree is still holding onto its leaves. Lots of apples left for whatever critter needs them for nourishment in the winter months. Hoping the wind stays in the north so the corn stalks and leaves blow away from the house yard. The color was not up to par this year along the Mississippi.

The colors really aren't that good here yet.
This is a pond in Hurd Park, just across the river from here. Interesting how the colors are better in the reflections than the real thing.

We are supposedly close to peak and this has not been a banner year for leaves, imo. The burning bushes look nice, though.
Great pix from everyone.

Sylvia, how did the instant pictures turn out? I see that Kodak has a Hi-Def throwaway camera now but have not tried it.

They should be ready this afternoon for pick up. I'll post some if they turned out okay. Thanks for asking.

None of my pictures turned out. There was a light leak onto the film--the good news is a friend of mine sent me a couple of pictures she had taken on their boat in the North Channel.

This one of Haydn is an exceptional photograph that needs matting and a good frame. I don't have very many good pictures of him -- this is definitely a keeper! His cookie duster that he recently grew is quite becoming.

We were talking about the meaning of names and I told them that Sylvia was feminine for the Roman God, Sylvanus who was god of fields, woods, flocks and guardian of boundary lines. My friends decided to anoint me the goddess of the forest and gave me a crown. That's my sceptre I'm holding. That was the thanks I got for making the lunch--no respect--just like Roger Dangerfield.

If I ever forget my camera again on a holiday, I'll get a disposal digital--at least that way I'd know if there are pictures in the camera.

Sylvia, what a shame about your pictures. But those two are very good. You look just as I'd imagined you; how often does THAT happen??!!
My closest friend Laura, who lives in Massachusetts, travels all over the world with her husband, and has never taken pictures. I can't pretend to understand it; it is so frustrating for those of us who can't do such trips. They just got back from 2 1/2 weeks in Austria, and not a picture in sight!

Silvia,
Nice to see a picture of you and Haydn, it's always nice to communicate on the forum with someone and know wht they look like. Heather sent me a letter with all the information I need to do more "things" on the computer. Maybe I can start to post some pictures of our vacation, but they were taken on a film camera.
Have you thought any more about meeting us at Disney this winter?

Heather,

Our acquisition of a camera has been very recent. When we were first married, we had a 8mm movie camera that was almost immediately replaced with super 8, and then something more advanced. Never did pay too much attention to what it was. We literally didn't go anywhere for the first 7 years, except the beach and short family-type jaunts. Our first holiday was in the Bahamas. We borrowed Haydn's father's 35 mm camera. I took quite a few pictures and neither of us noticed there was a cover on the lens. Needless to say they didn't turn out. A year later we took another holiday and this time we forgot to take the film. In that time period, I bought Haydn a very good 35mm camera, but I could never figure out how to use it--it had several lenses and you had to set the exposure. It was cumbersome to carry it around with all its lenses and paraphernalia. On our next holiday, we borrowed yet another camera and this time we took lots of film. We took lots of pictures -- there was something wrong with the lens of the camera and absolutely nothing turned out! We just gave up at that point and never took cameras with us on our holidays.

I can understand your friend's reluctance to take pictures. Had cameras not become so simple to operate and easy to travel with, I wouldn't be taking photographs now. There is nothing we have seen that we don't remember vividly--it's stored away in our book of memories.

Chrissy,

We sure would like to get together with you at Disney. We'll be taking probably three (maybe four) holidays to North Carolina this winter. Don't expect any of them will be longer than ten days with the possible exception of the one we take right after Christmas. We leave on Boxing Day (Dec 26) and that's usually the longest one. Have you decided when you will be going to Disney? Let me know when you've made up your mind and we'll see if we can match you for dates.

Sylvia

On edit. Chrissy, do you have a scanner? That is how pictures are usually transferred to digital.

Silvia,
We will be at Disney 2/04 - 2/11 and hopefully close to the dock where we can hop on the boat that takes us to the hotels and the monorail. We don't go to the parks unless they have a good discount for Florida residents. It can be quite expensive buying passes. We really like to just walk at our leisure, go to the hotels for dinners (sometimes) and have a drink. We would love to meet.you and Haydn. We may visit our son in Charlotte, N.C. sometime in the winter months, but our favorite place in the Carolina's in Mama Gerties in Swannanoa which is a hop, skip and a jump from Ashville.
Used to have a scanner. We have been very lazy when to comes to learning how to do things,on the computer. When our son lived with us he did all the computer work for us. I think it is time we get our act together when it comes to all this great tecnology.
