Chris,
What difference does the analysis of the reasons make? Why introduce political or religion in to criminal matters? Politics and religion don't change the nature of the act or it's criminality.

Terrorism is a generalized act of violence to gain the acquiescence of a larger population to prevent similar acts.

In this case the criminal act is encouraged and supported by the radical clergy, to retain their power over the people. Osama Bin Laden is not the source of the terrorist acts. He and others like him are products of the religious institutions that encourage the violence against the "enemies" of Islam. An earlier posted quoted GWB as saying, "the war against terror can't be won". I think it can be won. But, we have not yet suffered enough yet to have the stomach to do what is required. And, until we do, we will suffer defeats like Viet Nam, and difficulities like we've had in Iraq.

Tom,

Some of us are already harder than you think. You just haven't carried the criminal concept all the way out to it's logical conclusion, criminal enabling and conspiracy. Engaging in or supporting the act of terrorism could easily becomes a death penalty crime, know a terrorist and die so to speak. Guilt to the blood is a concept that is as old and well honored.
