According to a recent survey by Pew Research: "Overall, a narrow majority of Americans (52%) now say it is more important to conduct stem cell research than to not destroy embryos, up from 43% who expressed this view in March 2002."

The trend is broad based:

Interesting statistics but as with many statistics, they can be slanted to one's own view point by the way questions are worded. I believe if stem cell research is allowed to advance to the point where it is clear that it has either great or of little benefit, people can make a judgement if they want to participate. Promising now but we have heard that promise many times with other experimentation. But we still must have that experimentation and testing. We should continue to look for ways to combat the diseases that may strike all of us. Other countries are doing this research and I cannot see any reason why our talent should be left out of the effort. Why I remember when we thought the earth was flat.

What a lot of those statistics reflect is the gradual coming of awareness of the American people of the facts.

If it wasn't promising why despite our govenrment's ban would it be funding such research?
