What is an acceptable endgame in Iraq? What are we willing to a tolerate in terms of governments and people in control? How long should we be willing to wait for the proper conditions to arise in Iraq? |

Corky, A thought about the choice of titles for this thread. Endgame? Like that in Ieonesco's play? An attempt to contemplate the uncontemplatable, the end of existence? How can one think about the lack of existence, the complete lack of thought? (Theatre of the Absurd) |

How about the final move in our control of the destinies of the people of Iraq? Endgame as in the final move of a game. |

If We were to stay for ten years how many soldiers deaths would be acceptable. Does anyone feel the region would accept us any better than they do now or would they make us responsible for anything that went wrong. I personally don't think We will be able to change the mindset of those in that region and of that I'm sure. Now if We do stay there who would pick up the cost of the operation. Would world opinion sway us from collecting our babysitting fees from the sharing of the oil profits. I hope We are not going to build up their military, teach them what a real Republican guard should fight like and stock them up AGAIN with the finest weapons and stock them with "Weapons of Mass Destructions" |

There's absolutely no way we can have troops in there for 10 years. We should be gone the day after the election. Our troops are terrorist magnets. The hatred these people have for westerners is absolutely pathological. Get out of their country and keep them out of this one. Dan |

I am not sure we can set an exact time or date or number of years. Wars and the aftermath of them are not an exact science. What if we had said at the beginning of WWII, "We will fight for two years and then if things are not the way we want we will pick up our marbles and go home". Or after the war, "If things are not the way we want it in two years we are going to go home". Thing just can't be projected that well. |

Here is my take on this: First the Iraqi people are better educated than many in that part of the world. I expect new people to rise to the opportunity afforded them by the greatest democracy in the world and establish a island of freedom in a sea of totalitarianism. I know there will be many who for political reasons will not want to see the Iraqi people to succeed and sadly if they fail will take much joy in their misfortune. We will see things start to come together very quickly as soon as the new Iraq military and police have a few successes. God Bless America for our stand for freedom around the world. |

Dan has nailed it, they view us as just another colonial power there to make things right, for us. Remember much of the rest of the world contines to hate their former colonial masters, whereas we were bound to ours by heritage and language. Plus these people carry grudes for centuries, why do you think OBL continues to call us Crusaders in his spews? While I don't know if cut and run is a good idea, I don't think we will be accepted much better then than now. |
