'morning Folks, It finally snowed last night. A whopping 3 inches, all at once. I thought about taking my camera when I went to town, but didn't get around to it. There would have been a few great pics. Snow was clinging to every branch, every window sill. Flurries were falling when I walked the boyz before, so I may get another chance later today. Not much on the agenda...get the shoveling done before the cold air gets here. Sup-zero temps in the mid-west are heading east. On the reading list is "The Search for the Panchen Lama" (Isabel Hilton, 1999). I didn't even know there was a Panchen Lama--he's second only to the Dali lama, and these guys are reincarnated repeatedly. I always enjoy books about Tibet and China, and this one is no exception. Youz guys have a nice day, JM |

Enjoy listening to the "book" ! He was onlty the 11th reincarnation so he's nothing special ! LMAO ! George Forgot to add: The Spiritual Center (of all North America, and the second most important site in the world) for this particular group of Buddhists is located right here in Ulster County, New York in Woodstock ! LOL ! Been there MANY times myself in recent years ! With the leftist intolerants in China violating so many peoples' rights it may be the MOST important site ! The web address is: http://www.kagyu.org/index.php |

Calm down and explain where on earth do you get that from what I said? Just make it up? Here's one point where your earlier statement is crap: "leftist intolerants". Fact is China is moving toward liberalizing its economy, and following on that, a more liberal democracy. There's that word liberal, twice, which you would consider leftist. But if they are moving in that direction, then where are they coming from? Other than the conservative right. Or do you simply toss "leftist" around meaning anything you dislike and disagree with? Words have meanings. |

OK I apologize . . . I don't want to "fight" either. I happen to like you even if we ARE sometimes on different sides of an issue. This is fine; my best friend and I almost ALWAYS seem to disagree on things and we have been friends for 40 years ! LOL ! Sorry again . . . I'm just sensitive when governments decide what's best for the people instead of letting them decide for THEMSELVES George |

Just read in Wikipedia, most practice traditional religion like ancestor worship, Buddhism is the largest organized religion, Muslims comprise 4-6% of the population, and Christians are thought to be a little more, and are on the rise since the 70s, though they don't speak out because of government repression of some sects. Wonder why only Christians are looked upon with disfavor? What in history lead to that? |

Unfortunately, many people used Christianity to empower themselves and to control others. (This is FAR from the original message which was VERY decent and admirable !) This is what the reformation was mainly about. The Moslems have also tended to be very violent ithroughout most of their history and the Koran appears to glorify violence. I believe ALL religions are wanting and are corrupted to varying degrees. They must ALL be kept in check so they do not violate anyone's rights but I also feel very strongly that their practitioners should be VERY free to express their beliefs ANYWHERE they choose. Personally, I am a STRONG agnostic. I can't see me believing in EITHER extreme since none of it can be proven via science and I am a scientist FIRST ! During certain historical periods, they would have surely burnt me at the stake. During the CURRENT times I am probably considered by many to be TOO "pro- religion" even though the extreme irony is that I don't believe in ANY of it ! LOL ! Sorry again if I caused any tension. Sincerely, George |

No problem, George. Just challenged your statement. Now why is it some people use Christianity for their own ends but Islam is this or that? Why didn't some people use Islam the same? Or vice versa? Yes, free thought, starting with freedom of, and from, religion--long as it doesn't harm. As for belief and atheism, the two do not go together. What belief does the atheist hold? None, atheism, if we set aside Christian misrepresentations, is simply lack of belief in god or gods, because of lack of evidence. Hmm, where's that leave the agnostic? Especially when science doesn't prove, just creates hypotheses, looks for evidence, and tries to falsify. |
