'morning Folks, Another warm rainy morning in the Northeast. Somebody said last night that the predicted return to winter scheduled for next week has been cancelled. Have to wait and see, I guess. Conditions in the Midwest look pretty nasty this a.m.. Freezing rain. Eric's build it yourself compute is up and running. Thanks for taking the time to take the pictures and provide the info, Eric. My buddy from the Think Tank came through with some free hardware last night. Not a laptop or desktop, but an HP printer capable of printing photographs, and a scanner which is half the size of what I have now. They both have power supplies, manuals, and installation CDs, but I haven't found the USB cable that was supposed to be included. Have to make sure I didn't leave it in the garage last night when I unload that stuff and groceries. Well, rainy day, guess I have to start reading. I know that "real men don't need directions", but........ Youz guys have a nice day, JM |

Morning. This is my #1 for today: Replacing A Garbage Disposer. Looks easy enough! [dohtml]<OBJECT ID="MediaPlayer" classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95" CODEBASE="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701" width=320 height=280 standby="Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..." type="application/x-oleobject"> <PARAM NAME="FileName" VALUE="http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/video/playlist/0,26218,1189365-1059558,00.asx"> <PARAM NAME="TransparentAtStart" Value="true"> <PARAM NAME="AutoStart" Value="false"> <PARAM NAME="AnimationatStart" Value="true"> <PARAM NAME="ShowControls" Value="true"> <PARAM NAME="autoSize" Value="true"> <PARAM NAME="displaySize" Value="0"> <Embed type="application/x-mplayer2" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/" src="http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/video/playlist/0,26218,1189365-1059558,00.asx" Name=MediaPlayer AutoStart=1 Width=320 Height=280 transparentAtStart=1 animationAtStart=1 ShowControls=1 autoSize=0 displaySize=0> </embed> </OBJECT>[/dohtml] Easy as building a computer! Thanks, Eric, for the walkthru. (Edit, fixed video.) Edit, again, fixed it, no need to replace. It'd gotten jammed and stopped running. Reset GFCI, no go. Circuit breakers in garage, no. Now while removing, unscrewing, I see on the back side a breaker reset popped out. Pop it in, reconnect lines, restore electricity, runs like a charm. Just need to check for leaks. Now what will I do all day! |

I'd rather build a 'puter than mess with plumbing! Slowly moving stuff to the new box. Beware if you attempt to use the Settings and File Transfer WIzard with XP. I tried to use it and it obviously won't work if one machine is running Home (the new box) and the old is running Pro. Had to load the Home CD and access the Wizard from there and it worked ok. The Ancient machine (the 600MHz box) is about ready to be retired. Don't think I'm gonna mess with it beyond tearing the small (20 GB) hard drive out and installing it in the wife's machine. It's a 7 year old hard drive so doing that may be a bit wasteful since you can now buy 250 GB external drives for $100! The only reason it's not been powered down yet is because the laser printer is working off that system. Need to find the printer drivers and load it up on the Old system. But... the wife is talking about a trip to Home Depot, so everything may just go on hold for a bit. It's 67 degrees outside. Is this REALLY January? |
