'morning Folks,

It's finally winter in the northeast! Snow on the ground, and 23 degrees! Maybe we'll have apples next fall after all! It's too soon for the weather service to say if the jet stream will be heading south, but a little cold and snow is a good thing for a colorful spring and summer. Hopefully this will stop the early spring plants from growing any more than they already have.

Nothing major on the agenda today....it's a little late to start anyway. Youz guys have a nice day...

JM

A light dusting of snow; the very first flakes since last winter ! Was amazed to see LAKE EFFECT SNOW fully 100 miules SOUTH of New York CITY ! (Extreme Southern New Jersey). Means the Great lakes are EXTREMELY warm since the temperature (where it snowed) was above (or at) freezing ! Not only THAT but the band had to travel fully 400 MILES to get there ! UNREAL !

Was in the NYC area last couple of weeks. EVERYTHING is green and in bloom ! BEAUTIFUL ! COME ON "global warming " ! I think I'll go and turn on the wood stove to help it along ! LMAO !

Good afternoon, all,

No snow in Atlanta, but that's not unusual!

Just got back from a trip to Fry's with a new keyboard, wireless mouse, combo CD/DVD burner and some heat sink grease. Unless there are any surprises, should have all the parts necessary to put the new system together. UPS reports that, of the 3 shipments, 2 of them are already in Atlanta and should be here tomorrow. The last member of the trio was unloaded last night in Columbia, SC and nothing further has been posted.

Picked up a copy of Performance Test in order to benchmark the old and new system and will post those results when completed. I've been looking at some of the uploaded test results and the new machine should fly compared to this old one.

I just looked around the net to get the word on heatsink grease, and ended up at Overclockers.com. Interesting stuff. This guy uses JB Weld instead of grease. I know there had to be more to assembling a system than slapping components into the box!

I'm not so interested in over clocking that heat buildup will be a problem! Much more concerned with stability of the system than squeezing out the last few frames per second in Half-Life 2.

I've actually used JB Weld to make a ring gear for a telescope drive.

A groove was cut into a plywood circle and JB Weld pressed into teeth by forcing a piece of half-inch threaded nylon rod into it and allowed to harden.

Worked pretty good, too.

Not sure the thermal characteristics of JB Weld, but I don't think I'll be using it in the new machine.

Just some more on the snow ! HEY, if this is the latest snow in NY CITY in 129 years it HAS to be a record up HERE ! LOL 1

Finally! Latest snow in 129 years falls on city

ASSOCIATED PRESS

A pedestrian makes his way through this morning's brief flurries.
NEW YORK (AP) - It lasted just a few minutes and left barely a trace on the ground, but New York City has now seen its first winter snow - the latest of any winter in 129 years.

A few flakes flew through the wind at about 10 a.m. "Then our phones started ringing like crazy," National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki said.

The squall lasted about 15 minutes and recorded a trace in Central Park, Ciemnecki said. It's the latest snowfall of the winter since snowfall records were first kept in 1878. Snow didn't come to New York until Jan. 4 on that year, Ciemnecki said.

This winter is one of the warmest on record in the nation; New York has been following global weather patterns - specifically El Nino - that have kept up unseasonably high temperatures, including a 70-degree Saturday.

It's unclear whether this winter could be the least snowy in history - there were just 2.8 inches recorded in 1972-73. "It's not out of the question that we're going to get more later," Ciemnecki said.
