'morning Folks, An early January morning, and 55 degrees. It was 61 on the bank clock thermometer when I left town at 11 last night! But it's not global warming, according to NBC and the National Weather Service, so I guess it's ok to get out and enjoy it. Maybe I'll wash the TT when the rain stops--just to spend some time with her. Youz guys have a nice day, stay cool, JM |

Morning, cloudy and wet, a do nothing day. Let me ask you all a question. It's related to spam. Now I thought the spammers would stop after Christmas but it's only growing worse. I'm guessing but I think we're deleting 2 or 3 spam posts a day, and 5 or 6 spammers or potential ones a day. Right now we operate under a policy of automated registration. Someone comes along, registers, the forum software sends an email with a link back here that must be read and clicked to validate registration. That blocks automated spammers, because they will not check email and confirm, but what we're seeing is real, live idiots who will. But they do this within a time frame of about 10 minutes, and then never return. So what I propose is a change in policy whereby validation is done manually. When someone registers I will send them an email requesting they respond and say a few words about themselves. This would extend the time frame to at least an hour and perhaps a day. The risk of course is frustrating someone who does want to join the forum. Anyway, that's my proposal. Can I get some feedback? |

Sounds like a plan to me, Chris. If meeting that requirement is too much work for someone, I doubt they'd be an active and interesting participant to the forum. Nothing much planned for the day. Wife and I are going to have some new passport photos taken (sometimes it's easier to pay a bit in order to avoid the hassles of doing it yourself). It might hit the low 70's today! |
