Sincere thanks to the folks asking about me. My family and I are fine. But looking back on my 100% commuting days, I had to think "God, that could have been me!". We are a town of only 300K, so everyone is going to know at least one of the victims, or know someone who does. In my case, there was a former IBMer on board, and a girl that works at the country club with my son lost both her parents. Flags are now at half staff and all families have been notified. ComAir is asking permission to now release the entire passenger manifest. There is no doubt that the wrong runway was used, but you need to understand what a failure of monumental proportions this really was. There were THREE qualified pilots on the flight deck due to one being in the jumpseat hitching a ride. There was one controller in the tower directing the flight to runway 22. Yet not one of them noticed that they were on 26. There are at least 2 compasses on the instrument panel and they both read 260 degrees, not 220. 22 is lit, 26 is not. And after all that, they accelerate down 26 to their inevitable death. Absolutely unbelievable. A terrible tragedy....... Dave |

But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown. Carl Sagan | |

Perhaps it would have been better with one pilot paying attention to what he was doing. Sounds like perhaps they were distracted by social interaction, which can happen on the road as well as in the air. |
