Interesting allegory. A lady wrote the best letter seen in the Editorials in ages! It explains things better than all the stuff you hear on TV. "Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard- working and honest (except for when I broke into your house). According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest ... um, except for ... well, you know. And what a deal it is for me! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker. Did I miss anything? Does this sound reasonable to you? If it does, grab a sign and go picket something. If this sounds insane to you, call your senators and enlighten them because they are stumbling in the darkness right now and really need your help." |

Cal, er, Clyde, you know you need a reference or link. And the problem with the allegory is the analogy doesn't hold when we invited them here in the first place. |

Clyde isn't the act of breaking into ones personal property...ie home...different than the political act of crossing the border into another country without permission. I rarely post on Soapbox since I am not as knowledgeable as most...besides if someone is nasty to me I come back with both barrels and then I get in trouble.

Thought they were invited illegally. Sometimes men's actions are illegal/immoral/inappropriate/ineffective. Sometimes laws are. |

Reminds me of a "Boston Legal" episode. So, we invite one illegal immigrant into our home. That being done, that would, I suppose, entitle any other illegal immigrant to enter our home even when not invited. In fact, as many illegal immigrants as wish to may now enter our home even when we tell them they aren't invited. We have apparently entitled them. We're Americans. We have so much ..... so much to give. The American government doles out 55 billion dollars in government aide to other nations each year. We even give to nations who vilify us openly. We have so much. We are the Mac machine for the world giving piles and piles to any country who wants it ....as long as they keep their promises. But if they don't keep their promises, we should give them piles anyway. In fact, give them even more. Piles and piles. Oh, never mind that we are over 8 trillion dollars in debt or that we have 36 million of our own citizens who live below the poverty line or that we didn't have the funds to adequately take care of the Katrina victims. Give to them anyway. They're entitled. Let all who wish, come into our home illegally. Discard any rules or laws of immigration that we may have as a hindrance. Don't just open our homes, give them our homes. We should learn their language. Why have two languages, we should give up our language for theirs. We have so much to give. After all, they are entitled........whether they break our laws or not. |

I'd let someone live in my spare room and eventually build an apartment out back for the family. You don't know how much I hate mowing grass. |

Don't we pay them to come here? And not just to cut the grass! |

According to the mayor of NYC, we can't survive without them (meaning their cheap labor). But the UAW union officials ares looking for people that will increase their numbers. Maybe, since the immigrants are entitled to some benefits, the UAW can unite them into a collective barganing group for increased pay and benefits. Then we will have to replace them by importing folks from Africa or other depressed nation for the cheap labor so NYC and other areas can survive. We could even go around the world picking up strays under the cover of darkness and boat them here, give them huts to stay in and food for their work. Hows that for an original idea? |
