From reading the article these people sounded like retarded morons. It said they willingly adopted their 4 grandchildren. I certainly couldn't been out of grandparently love, care or concern. Althought the article didn't go into it, I wonder if there wasn't a financial incentive for them to adopt the children. Well meaning programs often due provide financial incentives for adopting. But, the problem is people then take the kids in for the wrong reasons. In the area I live in the last year a young child was murdered by his adoptive parents who are in custody and scheduled to go on trial for murder. It came to light they had been payed by the state a monthly stipend for adopting the boy. Seems he would have been better off in institutional care. Adoption should be by people who are caring and loving, not someone looking for a meal ticket to supplement their family income IMO.
