'morning Folks! The holiday weekend is over and summer has begun! Back to business as usual, as the fifth month comes to an end. Geez, time sure flies when ya get old! The fog is dense today at 1600 feet. Yesterday weatherbug had an alert posted from the weather service, but not today... go figure. Only the middle of the country looks cloudy with a few showers, those of us on both ends look to be in good shape, if you like it hot! Yawl have a good day, stay cool, stay safe, JM |

Good Morning John; Well, as you mentioned, the long week-end is behind us. I have a three day work week to hurdle, and then I will have a three day week-end. I was going to work this coming Friday to make up for yesterday (I don't get paid holidays), but Kylie wants "Gramma & Papas" to visit before she leaves for Ohio on Friday afternoon. She was over yesterday for a cook-out and some pool time. The neatest thing. She was cranking, whinny, and otherwise acted like a typical two year old. First time it has happened while I was around. I was beginning to think the little brat was perfect. Nice to know she is just a normal two year old. As you may know, I broke my very expensive toy over the week-end. The timing could not have been better. Yesterdays celebration of our freedom, and those who paid so very much to preserve it has reminded me once again, how fortunate I really am that breaking my toys is the worse thing that has happened to me. I can not begin to express my gratitude to all those men and women whose sacrifices have given me the oppotunity to engage in such folly. Be Of Good Cheer!!! Ken Gasbarri |

It rained like crazy here in central Iowa this AM. Unfortunately the morning paper got soaked & will take six years to dry out. That's about par for how far I'm behind current events so it won't matter much in the long run. Starbuck's espresso is slowly lifting my internal fog & Burnie the bad cat wants out of his room so he can stalk & beat up on poor Mr. Earl. Have a good day y'all. Dave |

Home again, home again, jiggity-jig... The Sunday skies started to look threatening in the middle of the afternoon, so I packed up the scope before the Florida thunderboomers started firing up. Crawled into the trailer as the rains started and didn't stick my nose out until about 7:30 Monday morning. Of course, everyone was telling me how beautiful the skies were after it cleared up at 1 AM! Wouldn't have made any difference because my plans were to get up at 7:30, get the trailer ready to head home and pull out by 10 AM at the latest. Everything went better than planned and I was on the road by 9:20. An uneventful trip got me back in the driveway a bit before 4 PM. Well, almost uneventful. I lost my cellphone on the trip back and believe it fell off my belt while I was dumping the trailer tanks at a Georgia rest stop on I-75. It was a great trip! Lots of good observing, meeting up with old observing buddies and meeting some new folks. The most interesting was Marty. Marty is a philosophy professor for a large northern school and an evangelical Christian. And if you don't think we had some INTERESTING and heated talks under the night sky! We didn't agree on a single thing except the new formation on Jupiter and we could have argued about that if we both didn't see it. It was Soapbox and Around the Campfire without moderation and a heck of a lot of fun! Anyway, just finishing up cleaning the trailer and will be hauling it back to the storage yard shortly. Once that's done, time to start getting ready for our trip to Niagara and Stratford, Ontario. We are driving to Columbus, Ohio leaving Friday night with a stop in Corbin, Ky. (No trailer for this trip... hotels and B&Bs). Get into Columbus Saturday, spend the night with some inlaws and leave for Niagara early Sunday morning with Candace's sister and her hubby - Tammy and Lou. We're spending Sunday night at the Red Coach Inn right across the street from Goat Island and a short walk to the Falls. Leave Niagara sometime Monday afternoon, cross into Canada and head for Stratford where we'll meet another of Candace's sisters, Mandy, and her hubby, Vic. Vic and Mandy have worked at the Stratford Festival for many years; long enough that Ohioan Mandy now sounds like native Canada, eh. We'll be seeing several of the season's offerings of plays and staying at A Deacon's Place in downtown Stratford. Leave back to Columbus on Saturday making the crossing into the US at Port Huron. Planning on having lunch with yet another of Candace's sisters (Candace is one of 9 kids - 6 gals and 3 brothers) outside Toledo and, finally, back to Columbus. We drive straight through from Columbus to Atlanta on Sunday. Whew! Home for the week and then leaving the next Friday for our place in Florida for a week of surf and sun. Double Whew! Who said retiring was relaxing? Eric |
