'morning Folks! The weekend is half over, but folks in the northeast have nothing more to complain about than that! There's a bit of fog this a.m., but it's warm, with forecast highs in the 80s this afternoon. I have a full day of things to do, so I will actually turn the computer off for awhile today. This will be a first, but that's what it takes these days--computers are as addictive as coffee. Well, Eric is in Florida with his telescope and Derrick is in the low desert camping in California, and unfortunately, Karen is probably trying to stay warm and dry in the house. What else is going on this weekend?? Yawl have a good day, stay cool, stay dry, drive safely, and help yourself to the coffee, JM |

Good morning, JohnM; turning the computer off sounds like a plan... The day is nearing that we should have baby chicks; I have to ready the little coop (about the size of a large doghouse) ; put a box of shavings in it, and cover the roof with plastic, as it currently is in a rather leaky condition. Then I can put Lady Jane and her five eggs into it and hope they hatch... Josephine is leading the high life with Napoleon all to herself and show no signs of going broody, but I keep hoping! This is a wonderful spring morning; sunny and breezy; due to go to the high 80's here and humid, like yesterday. The songbirds are singing madly everywhere! SOMETHING in the wall at the head of my bed was scrabbling around and creeping me out..I finally retreated to the guest room at 1 am. I put two mousetraps loaded with fresh peanut butter, and a whole box of D-Con on the attic staris; let the little so-and-so eat himself to death! |

Good Morning John; Well, we are back home after an abriviated week-end at the track. I did get to make some passes, but just may have ended our drag racing career. The engine exploded on the last pass, and although I was never in any danger, the word that got back to Peggy in the confusion after the emergency crews arrived, made her think it was very bad. "the car exploded and we can't get him out". She was quite shaken, and more than just a little mad at me for scarring her. Anyway, we got through that, but now we have to decide if we want to rebuild. Actually, the rebuilding part is very do-able, but not so sure about the desire. It takes a lot of time and effort to keep a car of this caliber on track, and maybe we both need to rethink if we want to continue. We have a very good car (without an engine at present) so we just can't walk away from it, so we will just put everything in storage and give it some time. Probably, we will either give it up entirely, or reconfigure the car to slow it down a bit, and hopefully, the "need for speed" won't cloud my judgement in the future. Well, I have a whole extra day this week-end that I didn't know I would have. Gotta go find something to do with it. Anybody got a 1,000 horsepower big block chevy engine they ain't using? Be Of Good Cheer!! Ken Gaabarri |

Good morning, all, Is it morning ALREADY? Had another great night of observing until the temperature crossed the dew point and we had thick fog form from ground level to about 6 feet up. Dew was running off the telescopes and dripping from the eyepiece. After spending more time trying to blow things dry with a hair dryer, decided it was bedtime. The big excitment was the formation of a huge new oval feature on Jupiter. Not there 2 nights earlier when we were watching a transit of the Great Red Spot, this new feature ajoins the Great Red and is almost as large. New features are common in Jupiter's highly turbulent atmosphere - a new spot (Red Jr.) popped up a few months ago and has slowly changed from white to red. It was exciting to see this major change in only 48 hours. Not nearly as exciting as Ken's experience and glad to hear nothing unfixable got hurt - especially those human components! We come to times in our lives when a risk assement needs to be taken: are the risks we are assuming worth the pleasure gained from the experience? Never an easy decision when the activity is one we dearly enjoy, is it? Good luck with whatever you decide. |

Yes JohnM it is wet and cold here. We still have the heat on.
Last weekend was our long weekend and it was nice. We really need this moisture though.Lot's of excitement..I see here.
So Heather I guess he is getting a reprieve from the pot
Ken your poor wife hearing that..I know that is part of racing but.....tough one.
Eric, I have always wanted to buy a telescope but I live in the city and I don't drive. I don't think I would see very much as being out in the open. You mentioned " watching a transit of the Great Red Spot," I will go to Great Outdoors for my questions |

Didn't mean to concern anybody. This run was no more dangerous than a routine run. There is some inherent danger in the sport, but Safety is a hugh issue, and nobody goes down track unless they are in compliance with all the safety regulations. The safety crew at Pueblo Motorsport Park is exceptional, and they were on me before I could release my harness. I would bet my last dollar that if any given racer will be injured, it will happen on the way to, or the way back from the track. Peggy got distracted, and wasn't watching when the engine blew, and when everything started happening, she couldn't see where I was. Our big issue with rebuilding the car is certainly not safety, but rather effort. Like I said, it takes a lot of effort and of course expense to put this car on track. We should have two crew people, but we have each other, and to be honest, I am a lot better at crewing for Peggy than she is for me. I would like to think I am a little better driver, but she continues to improve, and it may turn out that she drives exclusively with me as the crew guy. (it has occured to me that she just may be sand bagging me on the crewing issue because she loves to drive). The other issue is the life style. Now, I won't compare our car with someone's child or pet, but we do have some of the same issues. Anytime we want to do something, or make plans, we have to consider the race season, what do we do with the car, and is there any money to do what we want in addition to race expense. Having the car "turn-key" makes it an issue. Right now, it is like we are between pets, and do we want to return to having something like that impacting our lifestyle. It will be hard to walk away from. Our eldest Daughter would love to have the car if we slowed it down a bit so that she wouldn't need a compitition licensee to drive. We shall see how all this shakes out. Ken Gasbarri |
