Friday morning, and the weather is about perfect. At least the damn birds must think so. Every bird in Colorado is outside my window trying to out-volume all the other birds. I guess they have something to say. I just wish they would get a laptop, and e-mail their thoughts instead.

I suppose a good indication that Summer is here or near is that ain't hardly nobody on the forum these days. That is certainly a good thing from an activity point of view. Working in the yard, fishing, eating Danish, most things are better for you than sitting at a keyboard flexing your fingers.

I have fully recovered from yesterdays tragic incident, and perhaps have learned something.

About 7:00 am, I will roust Peggy from her slumber and with a little luck, we can be at the track by 9:00. Everything is right for a good day of testing and tuning. Well, everything except the driver. Hopefully, I can get my act together and all will be well.

Gotta go. The coffee is hot and you are on your own for something to gnaw on. Good luck.

'morning Folks,

No coffee for me....time again for fasting blood work, it comes around just too fast.

The weather around here stinks again. Cloudy, 40-something. Dripping wet laundry on the line from yesterday. What was Ken saying about sitting at the keyboard? Rain-laundry, rain-laundry, oops, too late.

I can't think without coffee, so I will be back later. Yawl have a good day. Stay warm, stay cool, stay dry,

JM

JohnM, don't you just hate it when you have to fast? Mom is fasting right now; expecting the VN within the hour to draw blood, then she can eat the breakfast I laid out for her (she didn't tell me this was happening today :fryingpan:  ).

This is the last day of Valerie's show in Norwich, Alison will pick her up and take her for supper before bringing her here...tomorrow Jennifer and Rosalind will be here for dinner and overnight. Everybody leaves Sunday AM. Wow, I get to see all four of my daughters!

Ros started her radiation yesterday (finally! Doesn't it seem they play fast and loose with time???) It will be minimal, so hoping no side effects.

Must go food shopping. Oh, it is raining like a sonofagun... :banghead:

Alison has 14" of water in her basement (Bow, NH). She lives right by a pretty little creek...they have had 15" of rain in past week.

Ken, I went yesterday on an all-morning outing looking/listening for birds with 8 people from the Audubon Society. The two young men who led the hunt have the most amazing ears! I added almost 20 new birds to my life list!!!

hEATHER;

Four Daughters. FOUR Daughtersl FOUR Daughters. Wow. I thought I did good surviving two of those creatures. Four would have removed any traces of sanity I may have had after two.

Daughters are the greatest gift a Dad can ever hope for. Of course, soon as they reach 13, and until the mid 20's, everyday is a "challenge". There should be a law that girls have to skip those "twix twelve and twenty" years. Guys like me would have hair, and money. OK, maybe that's a stretch, but I am not to far afield on the hair thing.

Four Daughters. Well Heather, that certainly explains a lot.

20 new birds, Heather! Now, that's a good day; give me names. We haven't had any real cold fronts to stop the birds who've flown over the Gulf, so no real fallout this year, and lots of birds making it north. I'm very glad, even though the bird sightings have been low. I heard yesterday that April this year was the hottest on record. I believe it; 90's already down here.

It's been so dry, that the mullberries on my tree are just tiny and almost juiceless. That's a shame, since a lot of birds get their early spring groceries at the old tree - especially woodpeckers. I also have a pair of nesting Eastern Kingbirds, which is a first for me. Lots of cardinals, the mockingbirds are singing for territory like crazy, and some of the blue jays are back finally. There seems to be a lot of woodpeckers this year, perhaps because of all the dead wood still hung in trees. Big red-bellied woodpeckers are common, and yesterday I almost had a beautiful little downy almost land on me.

The waterbirds are mostly back already also. The ditches have lots of yellow-crowned night herons, cattle egrets whose crests are vivid right now, and an occasional rosy spoonbill. But, mostly these are old friends; I envy you a day of 20 life birds!

Good morning, all,

Had my fasting blood work done a couple weeks ago and, much to everyone's surprise, I'm still alive and kicking. Go in for my pre-op consult in June and then get loaded up with Versed (a good thing!) and have my annual endoscopy. Shortly after that, it will be time for the barium swallow (upper GI) and chest/abdomen CT with contrast.

Yuch.

The only good thing about all this is I am more understanding of my peri-menopausal wife and her hot flashes. As soon as the CT tech starts the contrast dye, you experience a MAJOR hot flash!

Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day in Atlanta. I should grab the camera and go hunt down some photo ops. Or not.

Nice day, Heather! We had a yellow billed cuckoo about 2 weeks ago. I love the sound they make. My wife likes them because they 'skulk'.

The yellow rumps and pine warblers spent the winter with us this year, but I miss seeing the chestnut warbler and redstarts which are regulars in the spring migration. One evening several weeks ago, right after the heart thing, I think I wrote about seeing 18 species right in the yard, in about 2 hours. It's amazing to me when I think about all the birds which are here on the bayou everyday.

A good Friday morning to all. My wife's last day of work before a week's vacation, starting with the long holiday weekend, Victoria Day, that only somebody like Canada could come up with.... celebrating the birthday of another country's queen who was born almost 200 years ago!

Oh well, a holiday is a holiday... :dunno:

Heading out to see my Dad again - he's coming along very well. On his feet again, eating better, and getting bored - that sounds like Dad again. ;)
Touch wood, things have fallen into place (for his move to a home) better than I could ever have DREAMED OF.

Ken, I noticed your discussion about daughters and boys. I had two sons and my best buddy had two daughters. He had a way of describing the perils of fathering girls, it's hilarious but a bit "blunt".... I'll tell you in a PM, if you like.

Well, just time for a bit of a "took-a-look" at the rest of the forum, then off. See you all later.

:dunno: Are you sure that's worse than Columbus Day?

Victoria actually looks like the actress who portrayed her (or, I guess it's really the other way 'round) in "A Black Adder's Christmas Carol:" Miriam Margolyes
