'morning Folks! Another cool and cloudy day in the NE, but no rain. There is some in the forecast, but with the rally on the weekend, this isn't the best time to mention it. But at least it won't snow, and it won't be hot and humid, and there will be no MUD! Business as usual today. I'll get the mower out, since I'm running out of excuses, and then think about mowing. I really hate to mow down all the pretty little yellow flowers. Sharon's daughter is still in the hospital. Pain and pressure didn't go well on Sunday night, so they didn't release her on Monday morning as planned. Sharon has no idea what the new plan is, but that driving back and forth every day is getting to be too much. Hopefully the situation will improve quickly. Yawl have a good day--stay warm, stay cool, and stay dry, JM |

Good morning. More thunder boomers this morning, and all night long. I think Orson is finally getting used to it. I'll be driving down to Hot Springs this morning to meet an old friend for breakfast/coffee. I haven't seen her in at least 15 years, since she got married and now has a few kids. My new cell phone is a dud. I'll get it replaced while I am there in the "big city." I didn't notice because I spend most of my time out of cell phone range anyhow. Orson gets to go swimming in lake Hamilton or lake Ouachita and stroll with me on the Grand Promenade. This trip is actually a business expense. I have some drawings that need to be printed in very large scale color. I made up a CD that I will take to Kinkos, then stuff them into a tube and drop them off at the post office. I hope Sharon's daughter does well. |

Mornin John, morning Doc. It appears to be a nice morning here. Still too dark to see if it is cloudy, but at least it ain't rainin. Geez, I was hoping Sharon's baby girl was on her way to feeling better. That has to be taking a toll on Sharon. Hopefully, things get much better, and soon. Doc; are you sure it is you phone and not the service? If you are going to throw the phone, throw it at the service rep. Well, I think I have fully recovered. I OD on "Dave's Ultimate Insanity" last night. I knew better, but just couldn't help myself. One drop, not two, and certainly not three drops in half a cup of A-1 sauce, and you're good. Somewhat spicy, but eatable. Two drops, or more, and you pretty much make anything you put it on ineatable. I guess I have a short memory. I did the two drops, and then added one for good measure. WOW. good stuff, but it does leave the entire digestive tract in disarray. Peggy tells me I deserve it for being stupid. I wish I had an argument for her, but I don't. Anyway, all better now, and next time I will remember "one drop, not two" Wore all the proper clothing for my ride in this morning. Very nice ride, except the headlight went out about half way here. Not a big deal, except I can't see the bumps coming. All went well, and now I have to find a rare 6 volt headlamp for the thing. Maybe it's not the bulb. I will need to look into that. OK, I finished my Salisbury Steak Dinner, on my third cup of coffee, and it's time I switched this PC over to the "#%9@" mode. (that four letter word that starts with "W" and ends with "ork". Sharon, hope things get better and you can get some rest. Ken Gasbarri |

JohnM, sorry to hear about Sharon's daughter; I thought there would be better news after yesterday...how long is the drive to the hospital? Yes, the Rally is going to be damp and chilly...I am putting most of the short-sleeved stuff back into the closet and replacing them with turtlenecks. Maybe the rain will be intermittent, but you never know. Taking a raincoat too... The fence man from Home Depot just came back; Mom is signing paperwork in between bite of cereal . Goody, a new fence! The old one is literally falling down.I have a little trip to the podiatrist this morning to take care of a couple of ingrown nails; was going to have them completely excised (the ingrown part); just a half-hour procedure, but I chickened out because of camping this weekend; don't want to be taking a shower there with damaged feet. I'll get it done next month. Maybe.Well, time to get some laundry done...back this afternoon or evening. Have a GOOD day, everyone!

Good morning, all! Sunny here - headed toward 70. Weekend seems to be going downhill weather wise depending on what forecast one sees. What can you do...we will have fun anyway. Nice folks, great site, and lots of fun. As we like to say in the Northeast...Rally On! There are 51 rigs coming; JohnM, you should have joined the crowd. We're only going to Albany. I'm sneezing too, but it's because the town just mowed the park land...they started before 8 Karen, try coming home early today if you can. Don't push yourself. You still are recovering from surgery.Glad it's finally raining in Florida. You guys do need rain. John, aren't you afraid it will control the tick population slightly? It might cut down on your second job Good thoughts for Sharon and Toni. Hope today's news is better. Have a day

Good morning. Thanks for the coffee (Irish Coffee) this morning JohnM. I didn't sleep that well last night I was having weird dreams. I may be in a fog the rest of the day... As Passinthru said we got some much needed rain last night. We have a 38'X12' slab in the back of the house which will be turned into a covered, screened in porch. The men who will pour the footers were supposed to be here an hour ago. They may be late because of the rain. I'll try and post some before and after during this project. I'm realy excited about it. JohnM, please tell Sharon we're thinking of her. Have some things to do this morning. |

I know you and Frank will love the "room" you are adding. You have my permission to use that ever catchy phrase!!! You can even say "new room" with my blessing
Hope your construction goes as well as ours did - and our guys had to combat s***. I know a good tick inspector down your way if the building disturbs the little creatures... |

Ken, yup it is the phone. Without getting into discussions of bandwidth analyzers and all that, I can say definitively that it is the phone. If you want the didactic break down, I would be happy to discuss it with you in pm. Anyone coming to my guest lectures? Oh, come on, you always wanted to know about the relationship between Theravada Buddhism and quantum physics. You know you do. These kids will be slack-jawed and saying "wow". I need some "real people" there. Okay, so there will be faculty members from the math, physics, philosophy, and socialolohy departments there. I expect that I will be paying for lunch. I have been trading email with the head of the physics dept. "Now when you say that two things can exist in the same place at the same time, are you talking quanta? Would the object change, to facilitate this?" This is exactly what I need right now. Notice that the head of the physics dept never said bullshit. He accepts the concept that two things can be in the same place at the same time, but he wants to quantify that which cannot be quantified. Y'all should come and enjoy this experience. The questions after the lecture are wonderful. Wanna sit around with a few profs and a bunch of students and discuss how the world works? Does a rock want to evolve? <grin> Oh, I am getting psyched for this. The last time I did a round of these, I opened each one with the statement, "Everything you know is wrong. Let me explain to you why." The students follow me with their eyes. They are rapt, because no one has ever said things like this to them before. The imp in me just wants to yell "BOOGA BOOGA", just because they are so into it. The last time I did this, a young lady walked up to me after class. She stared very deeply into my eyes, and said, "Namaste." Then she asked me questions about quanta. Can there be any better compliment, than namaste? Think about it. |

Karen, I am renting a cottage on the Pacific Ocean while I am there. Friends had offered to let me stay there, but I need to pace and wave my arms while getting ready for the kiddies. I got email today to tell me that the lecture on Theravada Buddhism and Quantum Physics is "sold out". Fourteen faculty members will be attending, including those from the religion, philosophy, and physics departments. Ummm, compared to my normal job, there is not much added pressure. The provost asked me if I wanted to move it to a larger venue. Nope. I want to look the physicist directly in the eye when I talk about the Jeweled Net of Indra. In fact I want the chairs arranged in a semi-circle, so I can pace a little. Oh, this one will be fun. It is my vacation. I did a similar week at Duke last year. In a cultural anthropology lecture, I turned to a student, "You, how many countries are there in the world right now and how many were there last year." I though he was gonna wet his pants. He was only off by a hundred or so. You would not want me as a prof in any course you might want to undertake. I am fair, but I do ask people to stay awake. Care to guess what happened when this young lady's cell phone rang in the middle of the lecture and she began a conversation? Do you know the blackboards that raise into the air to expose the next one? Duct tape and up to the top. She was lucky I was not teaching a grammar class, or "Like hello" would have different meaning, to me in that context. The "like" is not just a manner of speech, it is a was to create one degree of dissociation. Oh gawd, Doc is gonna go into pysch speek. No. What I mean is there is a difference between, "I went to the mall", and "I, like, went to the mall." The semantic difference is significant. Never mind. Karen, let me know if you are coming. |

Oh, Pat, you might regret even asking. I'll try to be brief, but it won't be easy. The gesture (or mudra) of namaste is a simple act made by bringing together both palms of the hands before the heart, and lightly bowing the head. In the simplest of terms it is accepted as a humble greeting straight from the heart and reciprocated accordingly. The word nama is split into two, na and ma. Na signifies negation and ma represents mine. The meaning would then be 'not mine'. The import being that the individual soul belongs entirely to the Supreme soul, which is identified as residing in the individual towards whom the namaste is directed. Indeed there is nothing that the soul can claim as its own. Namaste is thus the necessary rejection of 'I' and the associated phenomena of egotism. It is said that 'ma' in nama means death (spiritual), and when this is negated (na-ma), it signifies immortality. I could give you 400 pages about the history and significance. Let me cut to the chase. I give my blessing to you. Yup, that's it. Now if you want to know where in my soul this came from, just pm me. |
