Well, here it is after 6:00 am Saturday morning, and no one has posted yet. Was there a party last night and you guys didn't tell me? I am going to spend the entire day putzin around the RV and the car trailer doing all those little things that I never get around to other times. We brought the trailer home last night, so I have all my tools, compressers, and generators right next door, and no excuses, so I will have to get something done. Well, after the "Council of the Elders" that is. Later folks, and please Be Of Good Cheer!!! Ken Gasbarri |

Ken, I was thinking the same thing and was just about to start a Saturday thread - glad I looked twice! I'm going up to OTB to pick the ponies for the Derby. The ponies, mind you. DaveR is leading me down the garden path I don't think favorites often win the Derby, so my $ are going to Sweetnorthernsaint and Sharp Humor. For no good reason! If you need better advice, read Dave's Derby Picks. Although Sharp Humor eats the same kind of hay that Secretariat ate. That must mean something. Horse was also bred around here and we all remember Funny Cide! Making brownies to freeze for the rally next weekend and doing other basic stuff. Out for dinner tonight. Had to turn down an invite to go swimming again with the littles - Patrick woke up and when swimming was mentioned - he wants Mimi to come again. I promised to go May 20. Have a day

Well, Ken, I believe we were waiting for you to make the coffee... Wow, what a day! Makes our poor weatherman look pretty silly; this morning's paper says no sun until late afternoon, if then. A few clouds, the sky is a deep blue. to the weatherman! I didn't get to the garden yesterday; soaked the Swiss chard seed last night and will plant them today; also perhaps go over to Halfinger Farms and see what they have for tomato and eggplants. The Baltimore orioles are back, whistling as they work over the flowers in the apple trees and the flowering quince. How I wish I could get a picture! but they are very shy. I would need a LONG lens! |

Heather; Well, I was up at 3:00 am to switch propane bottles and didn't check the coffee maker. I should have, the coffee was made, but the pot was unplugged. Story of my life. Anyway, just like there, it is a beautiful morning with no clouds. Of course, there is no race scheduled for today. May I refer you to my previous statement about "story of my life" I get a little jealous when people talk of their gardens. We use to have a very nice veggie garden, and Peggy had a gazillion Tulips and Iris and other stuff that she knew what they were, but I didn't have a clue. Now all we have is a square foot of grass that our Daughter bought us so that we would have a "yard" to work on. I explained that a "yard" would be 9 square feet of grass, but she didn't see the humor. Pat; The first, last, and only time I ever bet on the ponies convinced me it was not for me. I was stationed at Quanset Point R.I and we went to a nearby track. I put $10 on the longest odds pair for the daily double. The first horse was the longest shot, and won. The second race, my horse wasn't the longest shot, and was about two, maybe two and a half miles ahead coming around the last turn and the verdammit horse fell down. I decided then and there that horse racing was a conspiracy to rid me of my vast financial empire. Well gotta go. the "council" is waiting Ken Gasbarri |

'morning Folks! I have been online for awhile--catching up after getting dumped last night. The error messages when I tried to get back online made it appear that the problem was on my end, but apparently it wasn't, since I'm here today! Heather, your weatherman must have been looking a few miles to the west. It is cloudy and cool here. From the looks of radar, it will stay this way for awhile. What a good excuse to get nothing done again today! Oops, just looked out the window...it's raining!! Need that--wasn't any in the forecast until next Thursday! Sharon called the hospital this a.m.. Toni's better day yesterday wasn't a lasting thing. The eye patch was removed yesterday afternoon, and her eye/face was so swollen that her eye lid had to be pried open to put drops in. Not good. I have had cataracts and glaucoma for most of my life, but I have never heard of a case like this. If I plan to leave the 'puter by 9:30, maybe I can have breakfast by 10. The coffee pot just shut it self off--2 hours gone already...Yawl have a good day! JM No ponies for me either, but it will be interesting to see who gets rich!

Good morning all. Not much planned today other than a little housework and food shopping. My daughter is having a gargage sale so I'll pay her a quick visit. Ken, great to get old isn't it? I'd lose my head if it weren't attached. I can't believe some of the things I forget........When I was young, I never forgot anything.
JohnM, sorry about Sharon's daughter, was hoping for some good news. Give Sharon our best, we're thinking of her. Have a great weekend everyone. |

This OTB place was so cool!!! I was up there (all of five miles away) and finished with my bets and back in the car in 25 minutes. I've never been to one, but that could be an enjoyable afternoon - sitting and eating and drinking beer and watching simulcast racing. Very crowded this morning (I guess.) They had programs from almost every big track in the country. Very easy to work with...they had little sheets with the Derby horses, odds, etc...and you just filled out the back, handed it in, paid your money and got your tickets. I love it - grandmother disappoints grandson by not going to swimming lessons with him so she can go and play the ponies!!!

I was getting stir crazy from being in the house so long and I needed to get out. My friend dropped us off at this strip plazza close to home and would return soon to meet us at the DAiry Queen. I told Nicole I feel like an Hazelnut MooLatté® Frozen Blended Coffee at Dairy Queen..has anyone seen those commericals ..the ones with the bare chested mucsle guy is holding the woman, his hair is flowing as she drinks one. She said but grandma you are still not well best get a carmel one. Ok so we both got a carmel one. ( take off of the men on the romance novels ) I did not want a burger like she did so I went to get a sub and there was this cute young guy behind the counter. He could not take his eyes off of NIcole. He could hardly consintrate on what he was doing. Kept repeating my order and asking her what she wanted on hers.... hello she did not order one. I looked back at her. She stood there so conifandant and held his glace with her arms crossed. Just a hint of a smile on her face. She knew just what she was doing. I had to bite my tongue. As he kept looking up at her trying not to be noticed I guess.. but as he did this he just kept adding stuff to my sandwich. I think I had enough on there for 3 subs. Poor kid buy the time he was done serving me he went in the back. He was stumbling all over his words. I 'm in trouble

Indeed you are. We have four grown daughters...all very pretty if I do say so myself. They have to kiss a lot of toads before they find their prince...and some of the toads may end up sleeping on a couch in your home. Been there, done that. |

Oh, Karen, I just got that movie a couple of weeks ago; haven't watched it yet. I read the story when it first appeared in the New Yorker and it was so sad, I almost couldn't stand it. It really is a love story. I don't know when I'll be able to watch the movie but I had to have it. Please let us know how you liked it. |

Heather, I did like it...some parts more then others You have to watch it with an open mind. If you don't you will not get the true meaning behind the movie. Good plug for Alberta landscape. It was filmed just out side of Calgary. |
