Awakened to news that it is now necessary to put signs in neighborhoods (in two languages) telling people it is against the law to fire guns in the air, a favorite pasttime on Cinco de Mayo. :faint:
Up early and on my way to work; one of our employees has the day off; I need to get my work done early, so I can help fill in for her. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Cinco de Mayo; lovely name for a gorgeous day!

The album is ready; I'll get the link and put it here for those who want to see it. Lots of nice flower shots, though it was such a bright day, there is a little problem with contrast. This camera doesn't do so well with that.

All that walking aggravated my heel spur and I am hobbling....time for more cortisone, but I'm going to wait a couple weeks...want to be in good shape for vacation.

In the gift shop, I found some Swiss chard seed and bought a packet of interesting gourd seeds; all different sizes, colors and shapes. These are fun to grow!

Here's the link: New York Botanical Gardens

Good morning folks, another bright, sunny day. Starting to get things out of the basement for camping next weekend, gonna end up putting it all in the truck and packing the camper when I get to the Rally :banghead: . So, how is it in your neck of the woods ?

'morning Folks!

Nice pix, Heather! I'd like to have some of those growing around here. I'm lucky if I can keep the sunflower seeds in the ground long enough to germinate. Too many hungry critters around here. Lilacs usuall bloom by Mother's day, but that doesn't look very likely this year--the leaves aren't even full grown yet.

Not much new going on, I'll make plans for the day as I go. Yawl have a good one,

JM

Yes, Rick, that little brook was just full of sparrows, finches, robins, and a rogue starling, having lots of baths.

Something fun...when we had lunch at the cafe, the outdoor tables in the shade were full, except for one or two with one person each. I went up to a lone man with my tray and asked if I might sit there; he graciously said yes. He turned out to be a 40-year resident of Manhattan who visits the gardens every week of the growing season and has for the entire time he has lived there. He couldn't have been nicer, and four other women, seeing me having a nice conversation, came up one by one with their trays and asked to sit with us. The poor man got more than he'd bargained for, but was very gracious. New Yorkers are such nice friendly people, if you can just break the ice!

Kees, a happy Liberation Day to you and Josie!

Good Morning All;

OK, maybe good afternoon. I know I slept in, but it is another cold, rainy, dreary day, and we didn't get home till after midight. I was awake and out of bed at 4:30, got the coffee brewing, but Peggy looked so peaceful, I just had to go back to bed and snuggle. Turns out it is just as icky out now as it was then.

You did a nice job on the photos, Heather. My Gramma use to drag me and my two cousins down to the gardens in St Paul, Mn but for different reasons.

Having the day off, and being just a temporary employee, I don't have to be "PC" and attend the Cinco De Mayo celebration at work. Real employees must attend and earn "cultural diversity" points. And without those points, there is little or no chance for promotion.

Freedom is a wonderful thing, but like the Dutch, we should all take a moment now and then to reflect on the cost of freedom.

I am thinking of going up to the track, getting the trailer and dragging it down here and putzzin with the car. The race will probably not happen due to weather, but I do need to do a little tweaking on the car. The first year in many that I have been ready to race and the weather is just not going to cooperate. I guess the good thing is that my life is going so well that this is the biggest problem I have.

I am not going to, but I wish that all of you would Be Of Good Cheer!!!

Heather, Sounds like you had a wonderful time, sorry about your foot.
I love the beautifl dogwood tree. I noticed something that looked like a red pineapple? Looks similar to a bromeliad, love the tree fern, had one in our yard in Miami........
Also noticed a heliconia? Could be wrong on some of these. :)
Great photo, beautiful gardens.

Good morning all!
Heather, lovely pix. What a nice way to start a day :)

Another cloudless sky :) I could get used to this. Planning on spending some time in the rig...putting clean linens in, etc...Ready to rally next weekend.  I also have some windows to wash. I will not go shopping, I will not go shopping, I will not go shopping...

The fearless foursome is coming back here after golf for drinks and snacks, so I'll put the finishing touches on what Don is planning to serve ;) I have to run out and get some boxes or mailing envelopes for my clothing gifts for the kiddies - other than that...I'll just

Have a day :)

I'am back. Spent some time with the "Council of the Elders" this morning. The world is now a better place to live.

Anyway, we got to spend some time with Kylie last evening. Didn't have pizza, but did go out for dinner, and she was just a doll. She has this thing about the ladies room. She has to use each and every stall. This place has 5 stalls. (according to Peggy, I wasn't there) and of course, she had to go potty 5 times while we were there. After dinner, we did some shopping, and when we finally returned to her home, we was hoping she was run down and ready for bed. Not to be. She was still carnked up at midnight when her parents got home from the ball game.

She told her Mom "You have to go away again. Gramma and Grampa live with myself". Can't understand what the attraction is, but she sure does love her gramps and granny.

MS Goddess; You are correct. I have a "Banquet" frozen salisbury steak dinner every morning at work. Pop them in the microwave for 4 minutes, drown it with tobasco sauce, and black pepper and you're good to go. Oh, and they cost $0.84 each.

Chrissy, If we should get to Gainesville, I would be honored to meet you and John , and have you come out to the track, but using the word "racing" and me in the same sentence is somewhat of an abuse of the word. Oh, and I am just one of those guys that the little black cloud follows around all day. If I didn't ride the scooter, it wouldn't rain. If I don't go racing, it won't rain. I've come to terms with my lot in life. I am happy.

Well, I think I will go outside and curse the weather. Won't do any good, but it will get me out of the house for awhile.

Good day all!!!!!

Gosh, I am sure gonna miss the rally this year. :faint: Have a blast and a few for Greg and me! Oh, and give Gerry, Karen, Hutch and the "crew" a big hug!!!!! You can divy that up however you want to. :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Quit my job at Safeway.......last day is tomorrow. Ready for office work again. Had an interview yesterday, and pending favorable references (does anyone really list a reference who will give a BAD one???? ) the job is mine. Now I am not sure I am gonna take it. They commented on my SD drivers license and warned that if I didn't get AZ plates and license soon, that I would be "nabbed". This land office is in a 55+ community, and apparently the police patrol there often looking for people working here, but not registered here. Don't want to switch things to AZ, just to switch them back to SD. I think plan B will be to sign up with a temp agency.

Weather will be quite nice here today, only a high of about 87. Didn't get the 100's this week that "they" predicted, but has been in the high 90's and will be again starting tomorrow. Since I am not working today, the pool will be a place to visit today. Sorry Pat.

Great pics Heather................Karen hope you are still taking it easy!! Sharon......

Have a great day!!

Chrissy, you are right on both of these; I should have written down the names in my little notebook as I snapped away, but I was too busy looking at everything. These pictures are such a small sampling of all that was there, and we saw less than half of the 225 acres of the park! :faint:

I loved the little "pineapple" bromeliad; so beautifully proportioned and such lovely colors!

I was very disappointed in the picture of the white orchids; they were just stunning! so clean and beautiful.

Have a close friend in Miami whose husband grew gorgeous orchids in the yard. He sold them to Fuchs Nursery in Homestead. When we had them over for dinner he always brought me an orchid plant. I can't remember the variety of orchid he grew.

Jackie, let us know about the job. Will you be working full or part time if you decide to take it?
