Geez John...........it's been nice working with you.  :floorrollin:

Oops, I didn't realize I was trading, thought I was just adding one more, but it looks like the theory is that Cafe will keep me busy, and for the present, that does seem to be the case.

Pat, I think I understand your point about two Welcomes. Campfire Soapbox Welcome (the pinned one) is in serious need of editing, which will most likely be Chris' responsibility since it was posted by Campfire Soapbox team. The Welcom up top (above Newsletter) hasn't had a post added since February. Many new members haven't been mentioned on that thread at all. That will have to be dealt with one way or another--either I will post each time we get a new member, or the thread will be moved to ?? (to be decided).

Thanks, John. That's it in a nutshell. Maybe only New Yorkers understand the babbling of other New Yorkers?

Maybe you're a New Yorker at heart, Chrissy. New York--where the winters are cold and the summers a pleasant!

John "Oops, I didn't realize I was trading, thought I was just adding one more, but it looks like the theory is that Cafe will keep me busy, and for the present, that does seem to be the case."

No, oops was on my part then, misunderstood. I'll add you back to Critters...

"The Welcom up top (above Newsletter) hasn't had a post added since February...either I will post each time we get a new member, or the thread will be moved to ?? (to be decided)."

Are you volunteering? :)

The thought crossed my mind you don't need a special thread to welcome someone. It could just be part of the daily thread. Maybe add the name of the newbie to the thread title--if someone else starts, you can edit title (see Leader Guide), something like "Sat 5/6/06 -- Welcome Squid!". --Just a suggestion.

As for the Welcome and Newsletter subforums. It is entirely up to you. Seek others' opinions but I'm not sure there's a real need to archive either like that--just put in the "general population". :)

Discuss it, decide, let me know, I can do the heavy lifting.

We'll start revision of the Welcome thread next week....

Enjoy!

Born and raised, still have the accent. :faint: Thanks Pat. :)

JohnM, don't rub it in about the summers in New York, I know how nice they are. :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:
If I remember correctly you did have some hot days last summer, Gainesville may have been cooler.

I think this is an excellent idea. The newbie's name would remain on the first page (assuming 20 posts/pg) for at least a few days. That should be sufficient.

I assume (always a bad thing to do) that you know I only have access to Cafe itself--not the subs (Welcome and Newsletter). So, yup, the heavy lifting will be up to you if that is what is decided.

Right now, I am thinking of something that would look like this:

Forum
Welcome (The Campfire Soapbox Welcome that is now pinned below)
New Member Map
Message Board Invite

Pages (currently 44)...

Forum Title
Important Topics
Pinned - Current Newsletter (for a month or so if quarterly)

Forum Topics
Message of the day.
...
...

If I understand how the Large Bold link that is sometimes posted and centered at the top of the index page works, it is linked to the page it references no matter where the page is. In other words, if that link to the newsletter was posted, the Newsletter itself wouldn't need to be pinned.
The Welcome, Map, and Invite are important. But it is also important to get the "message of the day" as close to the top of the page as possible....

Comments??

Some common language:

I can do whatever with Special Links. The rest I have no control over where they appear: Order is Sub-forums, Pinneds, Topics.

You all's choices are what to make sub-forums, what to pin.
