'morning Folks,

I'm in a heave fog this morning! Well, not just me, everybody else at 1600 feet too. This isn't unusual in the spring, but it's the first thick one this year. Can't trust the weather forecast, either. Just looked at the Weather Channel page, and now they say 65F for a high today...gimme a break...I would have let the fire go out for a day of two. Snow for friday, so heating season is not even close to over.

First thing this morning is the appointment with the doc. Hopefully this will be simple. "Don'e eat suger." Ok, doc, see you in 3 months. But it usually doesn't work that way in the real world, but I'll find out soon enough.

Still too muddy to do anything outside. I did get the charger off the truck yesterday when the ground had firmed up a bit over night. Flattened the 3 inch foot prints from the day before too.

Coffee's on (strong), but somebody else will need to bring the pastery. Yawy have a good day,

John

These dates....you just cannot trust them, anymore. They sneak around behind our backs and just look what happens. :faint:

John M, interesting you said that about sugar. I have low blood sugar and can't skip meals, but if I eat too many carbs at once, problems arise. I know I'm not diabetic.

It's foggy here, too, but that's common for the Connecticut River area. The weather is playing tricks again; now they're saying snow for Friday. I hope it doesn't start until after I am outta here!

Here you are, everyone; took me a few minutes to whip these up!

Monday, Monday................It's so nice to wake up to the smell of strong coffee and a variety of danish for breakfast. May I have more than one?

Lots to do this week, getting ready for company. :) I'm think of making a Cuban dish for Heather when she arrives. Later this week I'll head to Publix to find a boneloness loin of pork, marinate it for a couple of day in mojo.

 Ok Dave, I believe you. :floorrollin:

JohnM, good luck at the doctors, let us know how you're doing. I find all this waiting for results is overwhelming. My son still doesn't know what's going on, going to the urologist Tuesday or Wednesday and still may not know.

Here's to a great Monday.

Pretty soon it will be time for Irish Coffee.

Well, here we go another work week and that much closer to Heather's well deserved fun time

I am getting better about going back to day before messages and reading. Some of you guys stay up so darn late and :yammer: and then there are the time zones.
I'm starting to feel guilty about saying its in the 80's here. Windy and rain later but no ice or snow or cold :)

More tree's to come down today. If they come back ;)

Wolfie, you and a crew want to come down?

Kate

Dave,
You really confused me on that one ;) I know what Friday is   The day of days!!!
Another hot one here - 86. A "cold" front is coming through tomorrow - low to mid-70s. Yahoo!!!
Chrissy - we're not company; we're just us.
Heather - get out of Dodge early if the snow is going to be nasty.
Gotta get off the phone here...don't tell on me :banghead:

Have a day!!!

Good morning. It is a very pleasant day here -- bright blue sky without a hint of a cloud. The current temp is 58°F and rising. Finally a day without weather problems. It's about time...

Heather, I have to learn to log on before making breakfast. Yumm, those look good. I had some leftover frozen blueberries, so I made pancakes this morning.

John, good luck with the doctor.

Chrissy, it sounds like heather is in for a treat. Note; Irish Coffee is not conducive to getting things down around the house, even for one as small as mine (36').

Karen, I hope you have a good week at work. One trick I use is just to shut my phone off. That sends it directly to voice mail and my message that says something to the effect of, "Gee, I must be currently in an area without cell phone service." I know you can't do that, but it could sometimes be a fun thought.

Jackie, have you been getting any of the scary weather that came through here, or has the jetstream been driving it north of you? Where are you in relation to Flagstaff? Yikes, while I was making breakfast and switched the dish over to DirecTV and they said the weather there was in the low 20's! The forecast was that I might get up to just freezing. Brrrrr.

I'm pretty much boxed in here for awhile. I can drive to Needles, CA or Barstow, CA for groceries or emergency parts. Beyond either or heading north I'd run into snow and frozen roads. I don't like feeling boxed in or I wouldn't have wheels on my house. I was discussing this with the ranger this morning when she stopped by for coffee. I was having this seafood craving and the desert is not a good place for one of those cravings. I was probably droning on about Maine lobstah and she mentioned she had never had lobster. That was that. A few twiddles on the keyboard and the first Mojave NP lobster fest was underway. You know those places in Maine (brrr) that ship live lobsters? Lobsters and clams are on the way to me c/o her at the ranger station (they need an actually address, not 41 miles down a dirt road a little past another dirt road). She will bring them, and I will cook them.

And no, it is not a "date". But I do have a nice bottle of Johannesburg Reisling and can come up with all of the fixin's. Oh, so I splurged a little on my order. Just call it a little bit of Maine in the desert. Four lobsters, two dozen little neck clams in the shell, a few cold water oysters, and a nice thick haddock steak (this last is for me later). Ca-ching, ca-ching, but what would a dinner like this have cost in San Francisco or New York? Why am I defending myself? It is not a date. I remember what dates are and this is nothing like that, I hope.

I am SO jealous! Lobster, clams, oysters and Riesling, my very favorite white. :banghead:

I certainly hope she appreciates it....

Turns out that it actually was quite simple.

You're right about the carbs, Heather. What I was told to do is be sure to eat fat or protein with any carb that I do eat. It's the fat and protein that balances out the load. Raw sugar, as in jelly beans, for example, really isn't good for anybody. It's a quick *high* followed by a rebound low. I was reminded of this often in grad school--don't be tempted to go for the quick energy at lunch if you want to be alert in the afternoon.

I'm 30 pounds lighter now than I was this time last year, and the numbers do put me in the diabetic range, so I do have to watch this condition, but as of now, I have nothing serious to worry about!! Can't argue with that!

JM

Good news JohnM, happy to hear Dr.'s visit went ok. I try to stay away from eating candy, only treat myself on special occasions.
