Haha! I am up, since 5:45 am....I think someone else might have a wee headache this morning....Doc, have a cup of good coffee, smell the morning air....you will be glad you got up. Orson will understand; dogs love mornings!

Another bright blue day, birds tuning up their spring voices. Mom and I are going to meet her friends at Cafe Benigno in East Haddam for lunch. Yum!

Only eight days til I leave for Florida...the van will be in for service tomorrow morning, so I won't be here til around noon. Then I can start stocking the van for the trip.

'morning Folks,

I'm up, which isn't saying much at this hour.....another sunny day. I lost count, this is 5 or 6 in a row (but that will change tomorrow). It's indoor seed planting time. Yesterday I got the peet pods moist, today I'll put seeds in'em. Tomatioes, peppers, and probably sunflowers to start.

It's 41 degrees F already at 10 am. The warming trend has begun. Shouldn't fall below freezing (even at nigth) for the next 7 days or so. No more snow!! No mud!! That is my least favorite time of year--mud season. It usually only lasts for 3 weeks, but it can get messy. No spring flood from runoff either. Can't ask for more than that.

It's nice to get here early. I couldn't figure where I fit in yesterday between diapers, and drinking, so I took my keyboard and went elsewhere....but I'm here today!

Yawl have a good one,
JM

Have a clamdigger, Chrissy, without the vodka. The perfect remedy for a hangover, very healthy drink.

I am all ready to go to lunch, trying to keep from doing any housework until then...and staying away from the snacks. I want to be hungry, for this place. Great food!

Heather, I think I'm tired more than anything. We left here at 3:45 and got home after midnight.

Have a nice lunch Heather with your Mom. ;)

Doc? How's it going, are you up and awake yet? Orson is licking your face, he needs attention. :)

JohnM, drinking is a big topic on the forum, diapers thankfully not. :floorrollin: :floorrollin: :floorrollin:

Thanks, Chrissy. I'll be back with a full review!

John M, how did I miss your post? I think it's nice that you grow your own seedlings; I used to every year but in this house there's no window with enough sun.

You can get the variety you want, so many more available with seeds, than started plants. What kinds of tomatoes will you have?

I hate mud season too, but not as much as when my children were little....

Food also gets its share of attention, which is fine with me. I'm sure Heather will describe her delicious lunch in exquiset detail, while I'm eating leftovers.....

Have a good time, Heather.

JM

(The leftover is actually beef strogenoff, which is very good reheated)

Goodmorning from Patticake...

Sounds like you guys had a ball closing the town down
last night...
I feel i closed something down...I worked in the yard yesterday..
My neighbor had some tree seedlings and she gave me some..
These are oak trees, and since i dont have the first tree on my lawn
i put out 10, some in the front and the rest in the back..
Im so sore today, i though i was ready for outside, since ive been running
2 miles a day for a while..
But today, i dont know if im as ready to go out there as i was yesterday..
Anyway, im not complaining, i was so glad to see the sunshine and feel
the warmth..Today im gonna take it a bit easier, but i will be out there in
a while...Yall have a great day..pat

I see how you missed my post (10:19, 10:21). I missed yours when I was quoting Chrissy. My connection is very slow today. I will reconnect first chance I get.

As for the tomatoes, I'm not buying any seeds this year--there are too many left around here already. The varieties of 'maters I have are, Brandywine Heirloom, and Caspian Pink. I hope that means more to you than it does to me, but the pics on the package look good.

Tomatoes are nice for BLT, but peppers are even better for stuffing. Lettuce is really nice (I have a bunch of different types of that) for everyday use in salad. I grew Nasturtiums the first year here, and they grew well. Flowers and leaves can be used in salad. I'll plant a few rows of them directly outside. Cukes do ok around here too. The best was is to put above-ground, large plants in big pots, otherwise the slugs are impossible to manage. Anyway, now I gotta get to it......

L8er,

JM

Good morning!
I feel perfectly fine and slept until nine. Got up around 8 just to turn the heat on. Brrrrr! at 44 outside. Sun's up and working now. Don had an 8:12 tee time, so I imagine he will be tired.

Just finished our reservations for the trip home in April and sewed up next year at two parks - got the sites I wanted in both. Can't believe how many people are reserving right now for 2007 - I usually leave it until July or so and I'm glad I didn't.

Have a day :)

John M, avert your eyes. Mom and I had the most delicious lunch! Everybody was so thrilled with the place, they all voted to go back again next month. This is unusual. It made me proud I had recommended it.

To start with, it is a pretty place. There's a gas fireplace open to both the lounge and the dining room, and the tables are covered with sunflower yellow cloths, then a red cloth laid catercorner on the table, and a fan-folded yellow cloth napkin at each place. The water glasses are tall and bent at a crazy angle. (The young Bulgarian waiter says, when they begin to look normal, you are cut off.)

I started with a glass of pinot grigio; then a beautiful platter of seafood linguine ($14); a small pile of perfectly cooked linguine almost completely hidden under delicious cherrystone clams, mussels, big tender shrimp and poached fresh tomatoes and sprinkled with sliced poached garlic and shreds of fresh basil. Mom has a lovely slice of pate maison, with shredded cabbage and frisee salad and cornichons (tiny sour pickles). The breads are incredible in this place; they bring a huge basket of hot, homebaked rolls: sourdough, pumpernickel, sunflower seed, raisin, olive and soft, floury white rolls, with pretty little crocks of sweet butter.

A lot of people ordered the osso buco which was served with polenta, and enjoyed it very much. Others had panini of different types. Everyone was happy.

Feeling in a show-off mood, I ordered the mille-feuille with lavender cream ($6.50) for dessert and everyone had a clean fork to taste it. It is two big feathery-light and crispy bars of puff pastry with a pile of mascarpone cream on a lavender-flavored pool of custard sauce, decorated with a pile of fresh blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and candied violet, with a light snow of powdered sugar over all. The most gorgeous dessert! I think the prices are terrific, for such quality.

Can you tell I love this place? Oh, and the service was perfect.

Ok, back to the real world. Pork chops for dinner. Yes, food is a big part of our lives, and I like to celebrate it!

John, (see, I knew you were reading this!) I grew Brandywine tomatoes here for the last three summers. They were very good; funny-looking but tender and sweet like no others, but last year they hardly had a fruit. I am giving them up this year for something less exotic and more reliable. I think the soil here is exhausted and full of organisms from too many years of tomatoes, and I need a hardy hybrid. But I miss them; they are so sweet and tender.

Heather, a beautiful description of a delicious lunch. I'm glad to hear everyone liked the place and you will be going back. It's very unusual for that many women to agree on something.....You made a good choice, the place sounds lovely. I always said you do have a way with words. :)
