Mur, Frank's aunt is 93, and probably has over a million dollars. He takes her shopping, to the bank, hairdresser, etc... When he takes her food shopping for a few items, she looks at the cans and checks prices. 2 cents in a big deal. Frank is very patient with her. :)

Thanks,

Oh, knowing him, he would be more upset if this cost three cents more than he is covered for on insurance.... I have NEVER seen somebody fuss more over nickels and dimes!!! faint.gif

Lawdy! He's going to be 90 in May, has two pensions coming in (although not that big), has over 1/4 million in the BANK, and owns a house worth even more than that!

Good God. Is he, by chance, related to my mother?

She is 88, this house is paid for and worth at least $250K, has at least $200K in the bank and in stocks, has unlimited free medical benefits from the state of Connecticut (plus Medicare), plus a fat pension to go with her social security, but we can't go out to dinner because it's too expensive.

Poor Mom. She was brought up in the great Depression and it was a huge thing for her whenat the age of 17, her father bought two pairs of shoes for her, instead of only one. She will never have a handle on what things cost now. She's bright and with it, but this she cannot comprehend.

Good afternoon. It is 71°F here in the Mojave National Preserve, with bright blue skies and sunshine. I am at peace with the weather.

Orson has been following a lizard around this afternoon -- just following it. It stops and he sits. It starts to move again and he follows it. Oh well, whatever makes him happy.

I've been catching up on work, now that I can spread out on the outside desk. I pulled the telescope out and set it up. When it gets dark here, it gets very very dark -- black sky with gazillions of stars.

Terri's Aunt Mary is the same way....93 y/o, not a care in the world, but still pinches those pennies....gotta be from the depression, her grandma was the same way

Thinking about going in and responding to last 4 categories of special interest looking for 7 out of 7, Kate and Ed.

Seriously, we have had a couple of relatives that left us money over the years they should have spent on themselves. Very appreciative but sad.

I thought 1 woman of 8 winners of Nebraska jackpot was cute when asked if she was single and she said yes she added its ALL MINE.

If my dad were alive he would be almost 92, and I do think people in that age bracket were/are very much a product of the depression. He did very well and retired very nicely, and while he didn't pinch pennies, he was adamant about one thing - never serve stew. He never talked about growing up but he was 15 in 1929 - and his life changed drastically. That whole era had to definitely color their thoughts.

She didn't happen to mention her phone number, did she? I bet *I* could get her to share.

See? I wouldn't ever let anyone know, if I got that rich. How would you know who your friends really are? ;)

That is really funny. I remember being about eight, oldest of four, Dad making about $45 a week (not bad for the times) working for Union Carbide in Oak Ridge. Mom made stew once too often and he took one look, walked out of the house and had supper at the diner. Only time it ever happened. Meat was still scarce after the war; we often had stuff like lentil soup or baked beans and applesauce for supper. We all are so lucky we never had to scrape like that.
