But then you put us in the role of world policeman. Not sure we should take on that role with every crackpot around the world. Do feel we need to focus on Terror War.

While I disagree with some of the justifications for invading Iraq, namely active WMD programs and operative terrorist ties, which evidence has not borne out, there are other justifications. The economic ones laid out by the neo cons, the sometimes heard, geographicically strategic argument.

I don't think Israel should have nukes.

As a super power, we have responsibilities that other countries don't have--- It would be nice to rely on the UN, but history shows they are not much of a police force. We relied on others to prevent WWII while practicing isolationism, but that cost over 50 million lives--do we need to do that again?

Israel has proven to be more responsible with nukes than the fanatics in their region. Nukes have proven to be a great deterrent in the hands of those who want peace-- as demonstrated during the cold war with MAD. However, with fanatics at the switch, it may be more challenging and therefore we must do all that is possible to prevent them form getting them. The fanatics are willing to commit suicide, but I doubt their so-called leaders are.

Bush ran on the promise we'd stop being the world's policeman because conservatives were dead set against that practice in the Clinton White House. 9/11 justifies the Terror War not policing crackpots like Saddam.

The Terror War shouldn't be seen through Cold War eyes. Israel doesn't need nukes.

I disagree-- Israel not threatened any one with nukes as they are defensive weapons--- The world has changed after 9/11 and we have to use a more strategic view of it these days. We have never had to worry much about democracies-- no matter how much different they are from ours--- That is one of the President's goals as I understand it.
Until someone can come up with a better plan that is realistic, I will keep my bet on the President and his strategic plan and Israel's haveing Nukes is no threat. I know that some radicals would like Israel to get rid of them for obvious reasons. There are many critics out there, but they had no plan that is realistic. The best way to get Israel to illimate their weapons is for the Arabs to recognize their existance and declare a meaningful peace.

9/11 says we must fight terrorism, not police the world. Spreading democracy, a worthy goal, will not be done militarily, but by example in Iraq, politically and, especially, economically, and diplomacy elsewhere, like what Rice is talking re Iran recently. Before the spread of democracy must be the spread of the message we are not the enemy, that radical fundamentalxism is. Invading other states will silence that message. I think what you see as Bush's goals have shifted lately.

I'm no radical about Israel. Just applying the principle of reciprocity. You want Arab nations to quit nuclear weapons programs, then so too should Israel. You want Arab nations to recognize the state of Israel, then so too should Israel recognize the state of Palestine. This, imo, better fits Bush Road Map to Peace in the Middle East.

I think we see the same goals, just disagree on some of the means. Bush has always placed diplomatic efforts before military efforts, and so do I. America has always been a reluctant warrior.

If Israel didn't have nukes, they would not exist today.

How many Palestinian nations are not connected with terror either now or in the past?

Like it or not Israel is really the peace keeper there. They are feared because the Palestinians know they will react immediately and they don't want to fool with them.

In the end times it will be the entire world against the Israelites but that time is not now.

God to me is a mystery but is the explanation for the miracle of existence, why there is something instead of nothing."

Cal, would you mind connecting the dots, "If Israel didn't have nukes" and "they would not exist today"?

Next, there is no Palestinian nation, but, even by Bush's Road Map, should be one. Are some Palestinians terrorists? Yes. Are some Israelis? Yes.

Israel is also a cause for some of the problems in the Middle East. Palestinians are constantly fooling with them. One, for many, to be recognized as a state, a just cause. Two, for some, to eliminate Israel as a state, an unjust cause. Doesn't seem to me Palestinians are afraid--perhaps those who have experienced Israeli atrocities.

In the end times???
